The fact that there are few publications on legal translation in English makes it necesary to expand the field within the framework of translation studies. This dissertation applies a descriptive methodology to examine tree strategies employed in translating an academic legal text from US english into Argentine spanish, by focusing on the semantically complex legal concepts used in a selected TT portion. It is posited that such concepts, as embodied in legal terms, are not huts to be translated from the source into the target language but, rather, interpreted within the context of the source legal system and only then translated into the target legal system.
