Resumen: In part I of this article in the august issue, I described several corpus tools that can be used by linguists to search monolingual reference texts. This month, I will discuss various desktop search tools that were not created specifically for linguists, but can be used to search reference texts with differing degrees of ease... Desktop search tools usually create an index of the contents of all the words in files on your computer.

Resumen: When most translators think of translation memory or terminology databases. But what about monolingual reference texts in the target language?. There are three common situations where monolingal references will be provided or will prove useful: 1.When translating academic articles or reports containing a bibliography. 2.When translating marketing material or manuals for a client who provides you with similar material to consult in order to maintain consistent terminology. 3.When translating legistation, where terminonogy must be consistent with prior laws.

Resumen: La "autoedición" o desktop publishing (dtp por sus siglas en inglés) guarda estrecha relación con una de las tendencias de esta época que es la visibilidad, o mejor dicho, la necesidad de sobresalir entre el cúmulo de información que nos inunda a diario. PAra ello, tanto el marketing como el mundo editorial han recurrido a una serie de herramientas y procesos que conmúnmente se denominan DPT, e implican el uso de software especializado para crear documentos para impresión. Es el ensamblado técnico de archivos digitales en el formato adecuado para impresión. Para ser mas claros implica un proceso que incluye la utilización de una computadora y tipos de software específicos para combinar texto y gráficos a fin de generar documentos, como boletines, folletos, libros, etc.
