Resumen: Translation as a profession provides an in-depth analysis of the translating profession and the translation industry. The book starts with a presentation of the diversity of translations and an overview of the translation-localisation process. The second section describes the translation profession and the translators markets. The third section considers the process of becoming a translator, from the moment people find out whether they have the required qualities to the moment when they set up shop or find a job, with special emphasis on how to find and hold on to clients, avoiding basic mistakes. The fourth section concentrates on the vital professional issues of costs, rates, deadlines, time to market, productivity, ethics, standards, qualification, certification, and professional recognition. The fifth section is devoted to the developments that have provoked ongoing changes in the profession and industry, such as ICT, and the impact of industrialisation, internationalisation, and globalisation. Resumen: A pesar de que la figura del gestor de proyectos se ha convertido en un pilar fundamental en la organización del trabajo en la industria de la traducción, son bastante escasos los estudios existentes sobre sus competencias. En este artículo se presentan los resultados de una encuesta realizada a 150 traductores y revisores en la que se pide opinión sobre las competencias específicas en traducción que más se valoran en el perfil de un gestor de proyectos. Este trabajo viene precedido por tres investigaciones (un análisis de un corpus de anuncios de trabajo, un estudio de las guías docentes de asignaturas de gestión de proyectos y una encuesta realizada a gestores de proyectos) que tienen como objetivo establecer un marco de investigación a partir del cual desarrollar un modelo de competencias para los gestores de proyectos gracias a una triangulación tanto metodológica como de las fuentes de datos. En este trabajo, proponemos ahondar en la utilidad de los mapas conceptuales para la búsqueda de soluciones de traducción. Con este propósito, presentamos tres ejemplos a partir de una sección extraída de los estatutos sociales de Bankia S.A. Detallamos cómo su explotación permite al usuario identificar los elementos clave de organización textual y, gracias a ello, mejorar la eficacia de la búsqueda de soluciones lingüísticas (mediante el buscador Google).
