Resumen: In previous discussions relating both research and translation/interpreting to each other (e.g. Andrew Chesterman & Wagner 2002; Klaudy 2006; Pöchhacker 1992), the main focus was either on the extent to which research findings improve translation/interpreting processes and competences or on different paradigms within translation research (Gile 2008). This article heuristically investigates any links between translation/interpreting competences, on the one hand, and competences required for research, on the other hand.pTo establish a research competence taxonomy that is related to translation studies, four different sources of information have been relied on: two public authorities, one scholarly organization and one translation and interpreting training institution. This conceptual study points out that many competences required for research within translation studies are closely related to translation and interpreting competences (Vandepitte 2007), so that an integrated view of research competences and translation competences is called for. Such a view will reduce the translation and interpreting institutions' task of teaching research competences to a set of ten major academic competences.

Resumen: The aim of this book is to provide an easy introduction to the understanding of Legal English. The book is in four parts. In the first and second parts, a theoretical background is provided where emphasis is place on analysing the peculiar features of this variety of ESP (English for Specific Purposes). A linguistic approach (both morphological and semantical) has been adopted, although other disciplines have also been taken into account, in particular sociolinguistics. This is so because Legal English is the jargon (despectively dismissed as «legalese») of an elite whose job is the meting out of justice. The third part deals with translation but from a theoretical point of view. By making use of (mostly) pragmatic concepts. A framework has been established to account for as many meanings in the texts as possible. The fourth section contains texts and documents, as well as introductions in most cases, illustrative of the different areas of the Law (Housing Law, Criminal Law, etc). Special care has been taken to select a wide variety of texts and documents to allow readers to enjoy an overview of Legal English at work. This section is heavily annotated. These notes provide explanations and translations into Spanish of the most difficult words, expressions and concepts.

Resumen: El concepto de equivalencia en traducción cobra relevancia con Nida (1964) al integrar las distintas perspectivas imperantes en la época y describir los procesos necesarios para establecerlas. Sin embargo, dicho concepto se centra, principalmente, en la terminología. En el ámbito jurídico, Pigeon (1982), Gémar (1995, 2015) o Mayoral (2004), entre otros, incorporan los sistemas jurídicos cuando delimitan el concepto de equivalencia funcional, aspecto que nos lleva a plantearnos la posibilidad de establecer equivalencias entre figuras jurídicas de dos culturas diferentes. Basándonos en los autores mencionados y apoyándonos en el principio de comparabilidad que es necesario para establecer equivalencias (James, 1980), hemos estudiado los niveles en los que se puede realizar dicha equiparación en los órganos judiciales alemanes y españoles, a saber, a nivel jerárquico, territorial y competencial. Mediante un análisis contrastivo fundamentado en los modelos de Arntz, (1990), Gémar (1995), Holl (2010) y Holl y Elena (2015), ofrecemos una propuesta de traducción y de equivalencia con el propósito de hacer comprensibles y adaptar dichas figuras para el receptor del texto meta. El resultado de nuestro estudio muestra que es posible aplicar este modelo de análisis entre sistemas judiciales comparables.

Resumen: La traducción de textos legales se ha convertido en una actividad muy importante en nuestras sociedades modernas internacionales. La globalización ha creado una gran necesidad de versiones multilingües de todo tipo de textos legales. Sin embargo, tanto el derecho mismo como el lenguaje y la terminología legales tienen una característica especial: están vinculados a un sistema. Cada país o región autónoma construye su propio sistema legal, lo que tiene consecuencias de gran alcance no solo para la elaboración y especialmente para la traducción de textos legales, sino también para el derecho comparado y el derecho internacional y europeo.
En este artículo, describimos algunos rasgos típicos de la terminología del derecho laboral y nos concentramos en un término en particular para poner de relieve los problemas planteados en la traducción. El carácter multilingüe del derecho europeo, la necesidad de la traducción y la formulación específica de los textos de derecho laboral en estados miembros concretos conducen a múltiples problemas de traducción y a la inseguridad jurídica de los ciudadanos. Al analizar términos relevantes en el sector del transporte, discutimos la investigación actual que compara conceptos y términos en el derecho laboral europeo, polaco, neerlandés y belga.
