Series FictionsTemas: AUTORES DOMINIQUESES; INGLES; MUJERES; NOVELAS.

Resumen: Antoinette Cosway is a Creole heiress, the product of an inbred, decadent, expatriate community, a sensitive girl at once beguiled and repelled by the lush Jamaican landscape. Soon after her marriage to Rochester rumours of madness in the Cosway family poison his mind against her; Antoinette's beautiful face turns "blank hating moonstruck"... and the action narrows, as inexorably as Greek tragedy, towards the attic in Thornfiels Hall, the grim Grace Poole and the suicidal holocaust of leaping flames. After twenty-seven years' silence Jean Rhys made a sensational literary reappearance with Wide Sargasso Sea, her story of the first Mrs Rochester, the mad wife in Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre.

Detalles de publicación: London : Penguin, s.f
Resumen: Bernard Shaw was born in Dublin, of Protestant stock, in 1856, and died at Aot St Lawrence, Herts, in 1950. The first London perfomance of Pygmalion took place in 1914: Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and Mrs Patrick Campbell took the leading roles. From the outset in proved a sensational sucess, although Shaw, irrittated by its popularity at the expense of his artistic intentions, dismissed that Higgins and Eliza would marry he wrote a short-story epilogue with a bitter-sweet ending. Nevertheless, Shaw's dramatization of a Cockney flower girl's metamorphosis into a lady not only is a delightful fantasy but also has women's independence. Its combination of ideas and social comment, together with its rich comie characterization, make it one of the most enduring and ehtertaining of english comedies.

Edición: First Mentor printing.
Temas: CONSTITUCIONES; DERECHO; ESTADOS UNIDOS; INGLES.
Tipo de material: Texto Texto; Forma literaria: No es ficción
Detalles de publicación: New York : Penguin, 1961
Resumen: The Federalist, commonly referred to as the Federalist Papers, is a series of 85 essays written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison between October 1787 and May 1788. The essays were published anonymously, under the pen name "Publius," in various New York state newspapers of the time. The Federalist Papers were written and published to urge New Yorkers to ratify the proposed United States Constitution, which was drafted in Philadelphia in the summer of 1787. In lobbying for adoption of the Constitution over the existing Articles of Confederation, the essays explain particular provisions of the Constitution in detail. For this reason, and because Hamilton and Madison were each members of the Constitutional Convention, the Federalist Papers are often used today to help interpret the intentions of those drafting the Constitution.

Detalles de publicación: London : Penguin, 1979
Resumen: Bornes likens the making of fiction to a game of chess, and it is to a game of chess that his fictions, once made, invite their readers ... 'He has one of the sharpest, most exhaustive literary intelligences one will ever meet with; there is endless instruction as well as endless pleasure to be had from reading his work', John Sturrock. The stories in The Book of Sand were all written in Borges's seventies. 'Blind. man's exercises', he calls them. Yet his way of conjuring with images - an infinite book, a one-sided disc, mirrors, a golden mask, a dagger is as potent and beautiful as ever, and he is incapable of losing his visionary touch. 'A marveHous collection to which one will return again and again ... But the book offers more than this, for its second half consists of exquisite poems ... suffice it to say here that Borges can still write a poem about the nightingale, and get away with it. A book to treasure' - Allan Massie in the Scotsman"....
