Resumen: Teniendo en cuenta que el traductor es en la primera fase de su trabajo un lector, no puede escapar de la subjetividad inherente a toda lectura literaria. El traductor, al igual que el lector común, interpreta los espacios vacíos de forma subjetiva, por lo tanto la traducción dependerá de la interpretación que de ese texto haga el traductor. No obstante, el traductor se diferencia del lector común tanto en la intensidad de la lectura como en la intención y la intuición, ya que posee un conocimiento más profundo de ambas culturas. En este sentido, el problema que se le plantea al traductor es cómo traducir la ambigüedad para poder acercarse al autor.

Resumen: This article examines the translation of an official English European Council text, namely a Commission Communication, into Greek. A critical discourse analysis-based methodology is used to probe the manipulation of ideological shifts between the English source text and its Greek translation. The analysis of both texts aims to shed light on the way culturally-approved patterns reflect and also influence society's priorities and preoccupations. The comparative analysis provides an example of how the European Union and its official working language influenced the translator's attitudes and motivations in decoding various ideological patterns. Adopting a social view of political ideologies and their associated readerships, the article discusses how discourse and ideology mediate in the translation of the English-Greek language pair. It shows how discourse reinforces ideological assumptions and how it challenges them by emphasizing that the source culture violates the very norms and values the target culture holds dear.

Resumen: La traduction de la culture a donné, et donne lieu à un grand nombre de commentaires traductologiques. Or, il me semble qu'aujourd'hui encore profanes et traductologues avancent, par écrit ou oralement, un certain nombre d'affirmations qui demanderaient à être relativisées, car, si on les examine de près, on s'aperçoit qu'elles sont en fin de compte autant de conceptions assez éloignées de la pratique. Elles ne tiennent compte ni de la réalité de la vie moderne mondialisée, ni de la fonction qu'occupent les faits culturels dans chaque texte à traduire ni enfin de la fonction de chaque traduction. Nous verrons que, dans la pratique, le traitement des faits culturels varie selon le contexte, selon leur rôle dans le texte (pragmatique ou littéraire) et selon la visée de la traduction, c'est-à-dire selon le type de lecteur qu'elle se donne pour cible.

Resumen: Taking Turkey's case as a basis, the current study focuses on the retranslation practice with an aim to discuss plagiaristic forms of retranslation which may create serious repercussions in the field of translation such as violating translators' copyrights, complicating the issue of translator's voice, producing defective cultural artifacts and affecting culture in general negatively. The study tries to outline and exemplify commonly-accepted impetuses for retranslation and inquire the validity of the rationale for the retranslations with a particular focus on Turkey. For our analysis, we used a total of 40 classical books distributed by a national newspaper as a promotional campaign. Following a brief discussion on voice in translation, an overview of publishing and retranslation practices in Turkey; this study presents guidelines for a more comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon of plagiarism in retranslation and translation in general. The analyses of both qualitative and quantitative data derived from the sample of classical books showed that the books were just reproduction rather than retranslation or translation at all. The article concludes with a discussion on the possible impact of fake retranslations on translation practice and culture in general and calls for further empirical studies to prevent plagiarism in translation.

Resumen: Existen problemas léxicos y sintácticos, entre otros, relacionados con la terminología propia del dominio legal. Estos problemas tienen que ver con el conocimiento del ámbito cultural, marco imprescindible para que el traductor pueda situarse en un contexto y comprender las relaciones existentes dentro de cada campo semántico entre el significado y su asignación, esto es, darse cuenta de que no hay equivalencias exactas entre los ordenamientos de los distintos sistemas jurídicos ni entre cada lexema y la función que le es asignada en una y otra lengua.
