Resumen: Ideology is a major issue in Translation Studies. With a case study of the Chinese translations of English news headlines concerning the South China Sea disputes on the website of www.ftchinese.com, this paper attempts to provide insights into the translation of ideologies in news in the Chinese context. In the theoretical framework of critical discourse analysis, the ideological factors underlying the disparity between the English news headlines and their Chinese translations are explored. The three-dimensional model of analysis put forward by Fairclough is modified and adopted in this paper as the basic steps of analysis: firstly, describe the differences between the original and their translations; secondly, associate them with the social reality; finally, account for those differences. In addition, to demonstrate how translators maneuvered to reach a compromise with the antagonistic ideologies which may set difficulties either for the news to win the acceptance of Chinese online readers or pass the Chinese government censorship, this paper offers an analysis of the translation strategies adopted in those Chinese translations, such as substitution, omission as well as the more subtle strategies, including changes of modality and actor. It is found that in the Chinese translations of the English news headlines, translators' priority is on producing translations suitable to target readers and censors' ideology, rather than linguistic equivalents. Therefore, translating ideology-loaded texts adds a new way to understand translation and ideological explorations in Translation Studies have great potentials.

Resumen: Los estudios que se presentan en este volumen son el resultado provisional de un proyecto a largo plazo que comenzó a fraguarse en la Universidad de León en 1994. El objetivo es desentrañar los mapas de las prácticas traductoras en España, su interacción con factores extratextuales, su plasmación lingüística y textual y las posibles consecuencias de dichas prácticas sobre otros modos de traducir. En otras palabras, se busca describir la actividad traductora real y formular los principios que guiaron dicha práctica de la traducción a una de las lenguas del Estado español, el castellano, en un período política, histórica e ideológicamente bien definido: la etapa franquista (1939-1975).

Resumen: Las comisiones del CTPCBA trabajan todos los años para fomentar la capacitación y desarrollar material de referencia sobre sus áreas de interés. Las jornadas y los encuentros que organizan son muy esperados por los colegas ávidos de crecer profesionalmente. Este año, tres comisiones decidieron subir aún más la apuesta y organizar un evento que dará que hablar. De la mano de los consejeros Damián Santilli y Alide Drienisienia, las Comisiones de Artes Audiovisuales, Recursos Tecnológicos y Traducción Técnico-Científica decidieron unirse para organizar el Simposio Hispanoamericano de Traducción Especializada y Nuevas Tecnologías, que tendrá lugar los días 19 y 20 de junio [de 2016] en el Regente Palace Hotel (Suipacha 964, CABA). En este dosier, presentamos a los oradores del Simposio que fueron especialmente entrevistados para esta ocasión.

Resumen: The Thornbirds by Colleen McCullough narrates the story of the Cleary family, Irish immigrants in Australia, and the love that Meggie, the daughter, feels for the attractive and ambitious Catholic priest Ralph de Bricassart. By resorting to the world of emotions, McCullough wrote what became a best seller: the novel was published in the USA in 1977, reaching high reading records and being quickly translated into different languages, including Spanish. When it arrived to Spain one year later, the book controlling system that had been operative during Franco's dictatorship and which was in charge of revising all the material entering the country was then coming to its end, but the novel still had to be reviewed in order to be published.

Resumen: Este trabajo tan solo pretende analizar algunos casos de aparentes errores de traducción que se pueden encontrar en la primera traducción de Tristram Shandy de 1975.

Resumen: Gendered and sexual identities are unstable constructions which reveal a great deal about the ideologies and power relatinships affecting individuals and societies. The interaction between gender/sex studies and translation studies points to a fascinating arena of discursive conflict in which our intimate desires and identities are established or rejected, (re)negotiated or censored, sanctioned or tabooed. This volume explores diverse and heterogeneous aspects of the manipulation of gendered and sexual identities. Contributors examine translation as a feminist practice and/or theory; the importance of gender-related context in translation; the creation of a female image of secondariness through dubbing and state censoriship; attempts to suppress the blantantly patriarchal and sexist references in the German dubbed versions of James Bond films; the construction of national heroism and national identity as male preserve; the enactment of Chamberlain's 'gender metaphorics' in Scliar and Calvino; the transformation of Japanese romance fiction through Harlequin translations; the translations of the erotic as site for testing the complex rewriting(s) of identity in sociohistorical term; and the emergence of NRTs (New Reproductive Technologies), which is causing fundamental changes in the perception of 'creativity' or 'procreation' as male domains.

Resumen: This paper describes how mediation in translation is realized by means of inclusion and exclusion of information at the selection stage and discursive deviations at the presentation stage in the process of target text production. It discusses the effect of mediation in relation to two types of the target text recipients, one is termed professional readers representing the censoring authorities and the other the intended reading public, and their respective socio-cultural backgrounds. Our argument in this paper is that an investigation of translation from the perspective of mediation helps reveal the power struggle underlying the translation process. The detailed description of the textual realization of mediation, in particular, helps create an awareness of the various ways the target text producer may take to mediate the translation process to achieve a compromise between the author's interests and the professional readers' political concerns so as to get the translation published.
