Resumen: A third edition of Dr. Crystal's popular introduction to linguistics has been made necessary by the continued rapid expansion of courses in linguistics and the emphasis now placed upon the subject in many colleges of education. Resumen: Most practitioners of translation agree that translation is at best an ersatz, able to get across only part of the source text’s meaning, which is meaning on two levels: the semantic and the phonological. Even in translating an apparently simple lexical item, to say nothing of long stretches of discourse, they are keenly aware of what is being left out. On the semantic level, for example, the denotation of a lexical item may sometimes be preserved almost intact. However, its connotations, associations, or nuances, which can elicit subtle responses from readers of the original, often defy the process of carrying over or across, which is what transferre, the Latin word from which translate is derived, means. Yet, compared with musicality, a feature on the phonological level, all features on the semantic level will become relatively easy. With reference to translations of Dante’s Divine Comedy in Spanish, French, Latin, English, German, and Chinese, as well as translations of Shakespeare’s Macbeth in Italian, this paper discusses musicality as the most recalcitrant of all features in a source-language text, and attempts to show how, depending on factors to be examined in detail, intrafamily translation, that is, translation between languages of the same family, can capture the original music with varying degrees of success.

Resumen: El principal objetivo de esta "Lingüística" son los conceptos, métodos y teorías de la lingüística actual. El plan general de esta nueva edición es presentar la lingüística, en cuanto que estudio del lenguaje (o de las lenguas), como una coordinación o correspondencia entre dos planos, el plano del sonido articulado y el plano del significado conceptual, mediados por la forma gramatical. La forma puede entenderse en el sentido en que la entendía Saussure, como la relación entre un concepto y su representación sonora intelectiva, el signo, pero también como las relaciones que entablan las unidades que ya tienen forma, los signos. Las relaciones de dependencia y constitución entre signos son la forma o estructura gramatical. Este libro está pensado como una selección de temas que son recurrentes en la disciplina, desde la fonología hasta la semántica. El desarrollo es "estructural" y "funcional". Está concebido más como síntesis práctica para un curso universitario que como exposición metódica y teórica. Cada capítulo incluye preguntas, ejercicios o problemas. Las primeras se fijan en aspectos de un texto susceptible de discusión. Los ejercicios deben servir para reforzar el contenido del capítulo. Los problemas requieren más reflexión y a veces no tienen una solución única.

Resumen: Esta obra reúne estudios de 26 investigadores argentinos interesados en caracterizar el lenguaje humano, en general, y la lengua castellana, en particular, desde una perspectiva mentalista. Los 21 trabajos que integran este libro comparten el presupuesto de que la plausibilidad de un constructo lingüístico depende, en última instancia, de su correspondencia con los datos pertinentes. Se trata, entonces, de una propuesta que va a contracorriente de aquellas escuelas teóricas construidas sobre juicios intuitivos y apriorismos formales. Las conclusiones a las que se arriba en cada capítulo respecto de la organización y del funcionamiento de las representaciones lingüísticas a nivel mental se basan en diversos tipos de evidencia: textos (escritos, orales y señados), perfiles acústicos, contornos melódicos, medidas de carga cognitiva y aun datos clínicos y de neuroimagen.

Resumen: "Il concetto di errore ha subito notevoli trasformazioni nel campo della glottodidattica. Se, fino ad alcuni anni fa, si prestava attenzione soltanto agli aspetti grammaticali, negli anni recenti il fulcro si è spostato verso altri aspetti comunicativi. Ora non prevale più il criterio di correttezza assoluta bensì quello dell'appropriatezza del messaggio. (...) Ogni tipo di errore è la manifestazione di un percorso mentale che l'allievo sta seguendo o ha seguito nel suo apprendimento. L'errore quindi non è più visto come deviazione dalla norma -e conseguentemente da penalizzare- ma come mezzo del quale l'insegnante si deve avvalere per favorire l'apprendimento" Fusè (1990).
