Resumen: While scholars may still argue for years to come on the concepts of good and bad quality of translation, the translation and localization industry developed tools for quantitative assessment of the quality of translation of technical text involving the relatively simple method of tracking and evaluating errors - all based on the assumption that a good translation is the one without errors. One of the goals of linguistic education is to prepare students for different careers they might take up, which might include a technical translator position. To achieve these goals students must learn not only languages, but also at least basics of the trade they might wish to develop. Since knowledge of QA methodology and criteria used in the translation assessment procedures is an important factor of individual translator success, I believe that they should be presented as a part of the future translators curricula, together with tools and methods for verifying and improving the technical translation quality.

Resumen: Everybody wants their translation to be top quality, and subconsciously we all "know it when we see it", but what does it actually mean? How do you define the quality of a translation? In this presentation I will show some theories on what constitutes "good" translation and how to assess the quality (without going too far into academic debates). But theories aside, there are established, widely used models of the translation quality assessment used in the technical translations industry, such as LISA, J2450 or TAUS error typology. I will show the basis of these models and how they are used in the everyday functioning of thousands of translation agencies across the world. I will also discuss the tools available for translators and translation agencies for quality assurance, both stand-alone and incorporated into translation environments or CAT tools, comparing included checks, error-resolving procedures and customizability. Tools for quality assessment will be discussed too.

Resumen: Los últimos cincuenta años han sido testimonio de la intensificación de los procesos de cambio cultural. Las innovaciones y transformaciones que se produjeron en estos años tuvieron un fuerte impacto en los medios culturales científicos y extracientíficos. Esto se vio acentuado por la celeridad de los cambios tecnológicos y la globalización. Los docentes debemos trabajar de modo de lograr "la capacitación de los ciudadanos, para que puedan enfrentar con idoneidad los desafíos de un mundo en el que la tecnología, planteada como respuesta a problemas o demandas de la sociedad, marca pautas en el quehacer cotidiano" (Gay, 2008: p50). Para asumir una actitud proactiva que permita la incorporación de las nuevas tecnologías de información y comunicación con una visión prometeica, es importante en primer lugar conocer mejor la realidad de nuestros alumnos. Con este fin, se realizó una encuesta a fines de 2014 para saber el grado de manejo de la tecnología de asistencia a la traducción de los alumnos de traducción de la Facultad de Lenguas, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. Esta encuesta que abarcó cinco áreas temáticas conforme a la clasificación propuesta por Alcina (2008) se comparó con datos de una encuesta similar a egresados. El procesamiento de estos datos mostró, entre otros hallazgos, un nivel medio a bajo de manejo de tecnología relacionada con los procesos de edición (Nieto Femenía y colab., 2015) y deficiencias en el proceso de documentación. En el presente trabajo, se presenta un resumen de los datos relacionados con estos dos aspectos de la encuesta y lineamientos para la incorporación de la tecnología a la clase de traducción mediante un modelo de enfoque por tareas (Fernández Rodríguez, 2005). Se incluye además un resumen de la propuesta didáctica implementada en la cátedra de Traducción Comercial, Facultad de Lenguas, por medio de talleres presenciales que combinan la tecnología con el proceso traductor.

Resumen: Including the training in new technologies in undergraduate courses may ultimately mean the difference between the mechanical training in the resources offered by the tool (as offered in training courses) and the reflective training (as may be implemented in translation academic programs). Reflecting on how to use a translation memory tool involves inviting the trainees to think about the implications of adopting technology in the choices made during the translation work and in the final product, which comprisesboth the translation and the translator's compiled terminological research.As Bowker (2015, p. 90) argues, the goal of a translator education program should be to ́develop the strategic and reflexive skills needed for adopting best practices and for making informed decisions with regard to tool selection and use ́.
