Resumen: This Scholary Monograph Series, published by the American Translators Association under the General EDitorship of Marilyn Gaddis Rose, is a project of more tha usual interest...A glance at the table of contents of "Translation and the law" suggest thah easily half of the papaers may be attributed to this, the rest having arisen directly out of ATA activities and, in a single case, the ever-so-gentle arm-twisting of the editor. What this suggest is that "TRanslation and Law " speacks to concerns felt in the broad translation and interpreting community itself rather than those of this particular editor. THe paper came in, one by one, "over the transom", as magazine publishers used to say of unsolicited manuscripts, back when there were such things as transsoms....THat is just as well. The possibility of twisting arms over such distances as those which separate the contibutors to this volume is nil. Proof of that are the several interesting papers still to be had in, "at least", Argentina, México, the United Kingdom and Hong KOng, but also in New York City, Washington, DC, and Texas...

Resumen: En este artículo se ha especulado sobre las consecuencias que la implantación de la Ley del Jurado podría tener sobre un colectivo concreto dentro del conjunto de participantes en los juicios ante jurado. De acuerdo a las experiencias previas de sus homólogos en países donde la presencia de esta institución cuenta ya con una larga tradición, la intervención de traductores e intérpretes puede influir de forma determinante en el proceso. Por un lado, el modo en que se realiza la traducción de preguntas y respuestas durante el interrogatorio puede jugar un importante papel en el impacto que el acusado y sus declaraciones tienen sobre el jurado o en el desbaratamiento de tácticas interrogatorias agresivas por parte del fiscal. Por otro lado, el traductor o intérprete podría ver cómo su opinión de experto en comunicación interlingüística e intercultural es requerida ocasionalmente cuando uno de estos aspectos se convierte en un elemento crucial para la resolución de un caso.

Resumen: This book explores the intricacies of court interpreting through a thorough analysis of the authentic discourse of the English-speaking participants, the Spanish-speaking witnesses and the interpreters. Written by a practitioner, educator and researcher, the book presents the reader with real issues that most court interpreters face during their work and shows through the results of careful research studies that interpreter's choices can have varying degrees of influence on the triadic exchange. It aims to raise the practitioners' awareness of the significance of their choices and attempts to provide a theoretical basis for interpreters to make informed decisions rather than intuitive ones. It also suggests solutions for common problems. The book highlights the complexities of court interpreting and argues for thorough training for practicing interpreters to improve their performance as well as for better understanding of their task from the legal profession. Although the data is drawn from Spanish-English cases, the main results can be extended to any language combination. The book is written in a clear, accessible language and is aimed at practicing interpreters, students and educators of interpreting, linguists and legal professionals.

Resumen: Esta novedosa obra aborda una temática inusitada. Tras el necesario prólogo de la Dra. de Miguel Aparicio, el Capítulo I aborda la traducción forense en los casos de hibridación temático-textual, firmado por la Directora del Grupo TransPoliLex, la Dra. Vázquez y del Árbol. A continuación, el Capítulo II estudia rasgos lingüísticos de las sentencias (británicas-españolas), por el Dr. Godoy Tena. Posteriormente, la Dra. Soriano Barabino nos adentra en la comparativa (España-Francia) de los delitos contra la libertad sexual (caso “La Manada”). Seguidamente, los Dres. Orts Llopis y Granados Meroño nos brindan el análisis traductológico de un auto judicial (“Operación Púnica”). Le sigue la Dra. Parra Galiano, con cuestiones traductológicas y éticas de un documento notarial marroquí redactado en lengua francesa. A continuación, los Dres. Lázaro Gutiérrez y Hadj-Djilani se centran en traducciones, transcripciones e interpretaciones del ámbito policial, área en la que el Dr. Madkouri Maataoui indaga en la transcripción de las escuchas telefónicas. Posteriormente, la Dra. Garayzábal Heinze y la especialista Reigosa Riveiros exploran las decisiones del traductor-intérprete en el ámbito procesal-penal, donde la Dra. Álvarez de Neyra se adentra en los derechos a la traducción e interpretación en una detención. Cierra el volumen la Dra.
