Resumen: "Es un hecho frecuente el empleo de terminos extranjeros, casi siempre anglicismos, en las denominadas lenguas de especialidad. Este fenómeno se extiende igualmente a la lengua común. ¿Responde a una necesidad para una mayor claridad de la expresión y facilidad de comunicación? Creemos que no. Existen quizá muchas razones que han favorecido esta realidad. Se busca a veces imprimir un aire «dinámico», «moderno», al lenguaje; «llegar» al lector, que las ideas que se vierten «caigan bien»".

Resumen: Le choix du titre de cette conference est peut-etre desabilisant pour certains car il semble remettre en cause la fonction première de la terminologie, à savoir garantir une meilleure comprénsion en évitant le flou et làmbigu qui sont de nature à entraver la communication. Certes, de nos jours, il est moins problématique de repprocher terminologie et discours qu'il y a quelques décennies; en vérité, si un tel rapprochement était difficilement pensable par le passé, c'est sans doute parce que les príncipes Wüsteriens si longtemps mis en avant ont été caricaturés ou limités á quelques points forts qui ont focalisé l'attention et laissé dans l'ombre certaines nuances et la possibilité d'autres approches.

Resumen: The current economic and financial crisis apart from impoverishing many countries has paradoxically enriched language by coining a multitude of new terms to explain and define the new situation. However, due to different cognitive, terminological and socio-pragmatic constraints, many of these financial neonyms, originally created in English, have been poorly transferred into Spanish or left untranslated thus losing most of their original distinctive and explanatory purpose. Many Spanish financial experts tend to use the English forms or render literal and often meaningless translations. This paper explores the structure of financial crisis neonyms in the light of their terminological composition and professional and social practice and focusses on the problems created by their translation into Spanish mainly as a result of cognitive-inferential, semantic-terminological and pragmatic-communicative mismatches.

Resumen: El punto de partida de esta investigacion es la existencia de una alta proporcion de significado emotivo en el dicurso económico, que le confiere una naturaleza híbrida que lo diferencia de otros lenguajes de especialidad [Languages for special purposes, LSP] con un nivel de formalización mayor [química, matemáticas]. El componente emotivo se manifiesta en la economía a través de procesos abstractos como la metaforización o la idiomaticidad, que dan lugar al alto número de expresiones idiomaticas [El, locuciones] usadas en dicho dominio. El auotor dedica el presente análisis al estudio de las particularidades lexico-gramaticales de las expresiones idiomáticas de la economía, y a la identificación de algunos patrones metafóricos recurrentes que las motivan y podrian ser la base de su gestion terminográfica.

Resumen: Historically, economic ideas have to a large extent developed in the English-speaking world. Economic terminology is often born un English. Thus, economic terminology in languages other than English is frequently the result of the translation of English expressions. These expressions are often idiosyncratic, appealing to concrete, vivid or visual terms, such as shapes metaphors or paradoxes. In Catalan-speaking areas, economic concepts are often first used (orally or in writing) in Spanish. Thus, many economics terms first appear as Spanish translations of English words, sometimes influencing the later Catalan term. This paper aims illustrating the original of terms and ideas, and the attempts to find satisfactory Catalan versions.

Resumen: The main purpose of this study is to compare and contrast the English-Chinese translated financial terms of Mainland China and Hong Kong in light of the necessary criteria for special communication terminology, and explore the feasibility of standardisation. Some distinctive linguistic properties and translation methods of the two regions' Chinese financial terminology will be illustrated based on data from an industry glossary and major bank annual reports. The present situation is that Mainland China and Hong Kong display both similarities and differences in their Chinese translation of financial terms. With the increasing contact since the 1997 handover, the two regions appear to have been influencing each other, especially in that Mainland China has been adopting Hong Kong's Chinese translations. In view of the fact that some translation scholars and practitioners advocate the standardisation of Chinese financial terminology in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan for the sake of better economic development, this paper outlines the main properties of the two regions' terminologies and evaluates how such standardisation might possibly proceed. Limited research has been done with regard to the translation of Chinese financial terminology and this exploratory study will fill that gap and attract similar studies in the translation and terminology fields.
