Resumen: El objetivo de este trabajo es reflexionar brevemente sobre algunas características generales del subtitulado para luego adentrarnos en el análisis de la traducción de los subtítulos de Elizabeth. De los muchos temas traductológicos que se plantean, analizaremos brevemente algunos rasgos del texto audiovisual, abordaremos aspectos estilísticos como el registro, el idiolecto y el grado de familiaridad entre los personajes, examinaremos algunos recursos retóricos presentes en la película, así como el léxico y el contexto en el que se produce el film y exploraremos los procedimientos de traducción más utilizados en esta película como el calco, el préstamo, la traducción literal y la modulación.

Resumen: Being able to propose a taxonomy of translation techniques has been a long-standing aspiration of translation theorists. By building on previous proposals, this paper presents the HispaTAV typology of translation techniques (ToT), a new list specifically designed for subtitling trainees. The aim of the proposal is to increase students’ awareness of the variety of possible solutions to translate segments of the source text, and to promote creativity, a key factor in the development of translator competence. The proposal has been presented to current translation students, who have provided feedback in terms of its usability for learning purposes.

Resumen: Este manual, partiendo de la experiencia del autor en la traducción no oficial de videojuegos como Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy VI o Phantasy Star IV, tiene como objetivo explicar técnicas para descifrar los entresijos de las ROMs de emuladores con el fin de traducirlas a otra lengua. De este modo, el lector que ponga en práctica la metodología descrita no sólo se sentirá satisfecho de ver su videojuego preferido en su idioma, sino que permitirá que otros aficionados desconocedores de la lengua de origen del videojuego puedan, también, disfrutar de la traducción.

Resumen: La presente obra nace de una tesis doctoral que a su vez parte de tres objetivos: a) revisar determinados conceptos básicos de la traducción audiovisual, los estudios descriptivos y la interculturalidad así como ciertos postulados pragmáticos, con el fin de acercarnos al fenómeno humor y e su traducción y de elaborar una metodología de análisis adecuada, b) describir desde una perspectiva discursiva parte de los mecanismos que se muestran activos en la traducción del humor en textos audiovisuales y c) identificar un listado de tendencias traductoras que sirva como punto de partida para una futura constatación de posibles normas de traducción del humor en textos audiovisuales.

Resumen: Audiovisual Translation in a Global Context offers an up-to-date survey of the field of Audiovisual Translation (AVT). One of the main aims of the book is to document the changes taking place in this thriving discipline, by focusing not only on current projects and research being carried out in AVT but also on the professional practice in a wide range of contexts. The contributors to the collection cover a wide array of topics from subtitling, dubbing, and voiceover, to media accessibility practices like sign language, subtitling for the deaf and the hard of hearing, and audio description for the blind and visually impaired. Resumen: Audiovisual Translation: Subtitling is an introductory textbook which provides a solid overview of the world of subtitling. Based on sound research and first-hand experience in the field, the book focuses on generally accepted practice but identifies current points of contention, takes regional and medium-bound variants into consideration, and traces new developments that may have an influence on the evolution of the profession. The individual chapters cover the rules of good subtitling practice, the linguistic and semiotic dimensions of subtitling, the professional environment, technical considerations, and key concepts and conventions, providing access to the core skills and knowledge needed to subtitle for television, cinema and DVD. Also included are graded exercises covering core skills. While the working language of the book is English, an accompanying DVD contains sample film material in Dutch, English, French, Italian and Spanish, as well as a range of dialogue lists and a key to some of the exercises. The DVD also includes WinCAPS, SysMedia's professional subtitling preparation software package.

A companion to Audiovisual Translation: Subtitling, it follows a similar structure and is accompanied by a DVD. Based on first-hand experience in the field, the book combines translation practice with other related tasks - usually commissioned to dialogue writers and dubbing assistants - thus offering a complete introduction to the field of dubbing. It develops diversified skills, presents a broad picture of the industry, engages with the various controversies in the field, and challenges prevailing stereotypes. The individual chapters cover the map of dubbing in the world, the dubbing market and professional environment, text segmentation into takes or loops, lip-syncing, the challenge of emulating oral discourse, the semiotic nature of audiovisual texts, and specific audiovisual translation issues. The book further raises a number of research questions and looks at some of the unresolved challenges of this very specific form of translation. It includes graded exercises covering core skills that can be practisced in class or at home, individually or collectively.
