Resumen: El objetivo de este trabajo es reflexionar brevemente sobre algunas características generales del subtitulado para luego adentrarnos en el análisis de la traducción de los subtítulos de Elizabeth. De los muchos temas traductológicos que se plantean, analizaremos brevemente algunos rasgos del texto audiovisual, abordaremos aspectos estilísticos como el registro, el idiolecto y el grado de familiaridad entre los personajes, examinaremos algunos recursos retóricos presentes en la película, así como el léxico y el contexto en el que se produce el film y exploraremos los procedimientos de traducción más utilizados en esta película como el calco, el préstamo, la traducción literal y la modulación.

Resumen: Este es uno de los primeros libros centrados exclusivamente en esta modalidad traductora que se publican en lengua española. El autor nos ofrece una visión de conjunto sobre la subtitulación tanto en sus aspectos históricos como socioculturales y laborales: desde la génesis de esta práctica traductora y su articulación en nuestra sociedad, fundamentalmente por oposición al doblaje, hasta las distintas etapas profesionales que se suceden en la generación de subtítulos, pasando por ciertos aspectos lingüísticos y formales que caracterizan su presentación en pantalla. Además de establecer una taxonomía de los diferentes tipos de subtítulos que existen, también se da cabida en la obra a cuestiones relacionadas con el valor semiótico de la imagen, la dimensión pedagógica de los subtítulos, la vulnerabilidad de una traducción que se ve en la difícil coyuntura de tener que cohabitar con el texto y los diálogos originales, la invisibilidad sistemática de la figura del traductor y los aspectos legislativos y económicos que rigen esta profesión.

Resumen: Tradicionalmente se ha llamado traducción subordinada a la traducción para doblaje y el subtitulado, junto con otras como la publicitaria o la de los cómics, pero, dado que la traducción se subordina siempre a un texto, una cultura, etc,. Según el autor de esta investigación, parece que este nombre no aclara nada y explica en esta obra que el mejor nombre es el de traducción audiovisual, pues acota y resume sus características.Las consideraciones llevadas a cabo en el presente estudio se refieren, en concreto, a la traducción para doblaje de producciones audiovisuales en lengua inglesa para el mercado español peninsular, otras regiones y otras nacionalidades pueden requerir soluciones concretas diferentes, aunque muchas de las reflexiones expuestas son aplicables a la traducción en general.

Resumen: El crecimiento de esta área de especialidad de la traducción profesional se corresponde con la expansión que vive la industria audiovisual, encabezada por el auge de plataformas como Netflix. El subtitulado, el doblaje y la audiodescripción son algunos de los campos de trabajo donde podemos desarrollar nuestras aptitudes.

Resumen: Being able to propose a taxonomy of translation techniques has been a long-standing aspiration of translation theorists. By building on previous proposals, this paper presents the HispaTAV typology of translation techniques (ToT), a new list specifically designed for subtitling trainees. The aim of the proposal is to increase students’ awareness of the variety of possible solutions to translate segments of the source text, and to promote creativity, a key factor in the development of translator competence. The proposal has been presented to current translation students, who have provided feedback in terms of its usability for learning purposes.

Resumen: The aim of this article is to describe the state of the art in Spain of the two most popular media accessible modalities: audio description and subtitling for the deaf and hard of hearing. The article traces their origin and development up to the present time. It also examines standards and laws and analyses the economic and operative implications of media accessibility, which does not follow traditional economic parameters. The article aims to define the profile of future describers and subtitlers in Spain, who are currently being trained in the field of Audiovisual Translation. It concludes by proposing a wide variety of measures to be taken in order to reach full media accessibility and raise popular awareness of these services which are available now and will be increasingly so in the future with the change from analogous to digital broadcasting.

Based on sound research and first-hand experience in the field, the book focuses on generally accepted practice but identifies current points of contention, takes regional and medium-bound variants into consideration, and traces new developments that may have an influence on the evolution of the profession. The individual chapters cover the rules of good subtitling practice, the linguistic and semiotic dimensions of subtitling, the professional environment, technical considerations, and key concepts and conventions, providing access to the core skills and knowledge needed to subtitle for television, cinema and DVD. Also included are graded exercises covering core skills. While the working language of the book is English, an accompanying DVD contains sample film material in Dutch, English, French, Italian and Spanish, as well as a range of dialogue lists and a key to some of the exercises. Based on first-hand experience in the field, the book combines translation practice with other related tasks - usually commissioned to dialogue writers and dubbing assistants - thus offering a complete introduction to the field of dubbing. It develops diversified skills, presents a broad picture of the industry, engages with the various controversies in the field, and challenges prevailing stereotypes. The individual chapters cover the map of dubbing in the world, the dubbing market and professional environment, text segmentation into takes or loops, lip-syncing, the challenge of emulating oral discourse, the semiotic nature of audiovisual texts, and specific audiovisual translation issues.
