Resumen: The notion of systems has helped revolutionize translation studies since the 1970s. As a key part of many descriptive approaches, it has broken with the prescriptive focus on what translation should be, encouraging researchers to ask what translation does in specific cultural settings. From his privileged position as a direct participant in these developments, Theo Hermans explains how contemporary descriptive approaches came about, what the basic ideas were, and how those ideas have evolved over time. His discussion addresses the fundamental problems of translation norms, equivalence, polysystems and social systems, covering not only the work of Levý, Holmes, Even-Zohar, Toury, Lefevere, Lambert, Van Leuven-Zwart, Dhulst and others, but also giving special attention to recent contributions derived from Pierre Bourdieu and Niklas Luhmann. An added focus on practical questions of how to investigate translation (problems of definition, description, assessment of readerships, etc.)

Resumen: En la mayor parte del mundo, el traslado de los contenidos de un documento en idioma extranjero al idioma nacional o viceversa, tanto en el ámbito público como en el privado, es realizado por traductores. En cambio, en Argentina existe la figura del Traductor Público Universitario Matriculado (TPUM), res-ponsable de realizar traducciones públicas e interpretaciones con efectos jurídico-administrativos. Por lo tanto, el TPUM puede desempeñarse en el ámbito privado y público como proveedor de servi-cios de traducción pública y, en el ámbito judicial, como auxiliar de la Justicia. Cabe aclarar que, además, en Argentina y según la legislación constitutiva de cada Colegio Profesio-nal, también están habilitados para realizar traducciones públicas aquellos traductores que cuenten con una matrícula habilitante del Colegio Profesional de su jurisdicción, aunque no tengan un título universitario. Todo Traductor Público Universitario (TPU) alcanza la cualidad de TPUM cuando se matricula ante el Colegio Profesional de una jurisdicción o de varias jurisdicciones, siguiendo las formalidades estable-cidas por los respectivos Colegios Profesionales. Al momento de edición de esta norma, existen provincias en donde no hay Colegio Profesional. Se considera fundamental contar con una norma IRAM que establezca los requisitos para la actua-ción del TPUM como proveedor de servicios de traducción pública y la estandarización del flujo de trabajo, de modo tal que sea de utilidad no solo a los profesionales, sino también a los usuarios de su servicio. Además, este documento puede contribuir con aquellas jurisdicciones que aún no cuentan con un Colegio Profesional propio.

Resumen: Esta norma fue desarrollada en respuesta a una situación generalizada para atender la necesidad de interpretación para personas privadas de libertad, sospechosos, imputados, acusado, demandados, actores, demandantes, denunciantes, querellantes, testigos, víctimas, las partes en las diferentes ac-tuaciones de asuntos legales durante la comunicación oral o en lengua de señas y también contempla las necesidades de las partes interesadas del ámbito judicial tales como jueces, aboga-dos, fiscales, funcionarios policiales, personal administrativo de los tribunales, escribanos así como también ciudadanos privados que requieran de servicios de interpretación durante eventos comunica-tivos en el ámbito del derecho. El derecho a recibir servicios de interpretación jurídica ha sido consagrado en varios documentos in-ternacionales (ver Anexo A). La interpretación jurídica requiere la calidad suficiente para asegurar el acceso igualitario a la justicia y a juicios equitativos para todos.

Resumen: Memes of Translation is a search for coherence in translation theory based on the notion of Memes: ideas that spread, develop and replicate, like genes. The author explores a wide range of ideas on translation, mapping the "meme pool" of translation theory with chapters on translation history, norms, strategies, assessment, ethics, and translator training. The aim of the book is to search for a perspective from which the immense variety of ideas about translation can be related. The unifying thread is the philosophy of Karl Popper. The book proposes the beginnings of a Popperian theory of translation, based on the fundamental concepts of norms, strategies, and values. A key idea is that a translation itself is a theory or hypothesis concerning the source text. This hypothesis is then subjected to testing, refinement, and perhaps even rejection, just like any other hypothesis.
