Resumen: En El vergonzoso en palacio, la escena trascurre en Portugal: un halago a los cortesanos lusos que asistían en la corte de Felipe III. Los personajes pertenecen a la más alta aristocracia del siglo XV: los duques de Coimbra y de Aveiro, los condes de Estremoz y de Penela. La trama semihistórica, construida sobre una buscada simetría de parejas antitéticas, abunda en lances inverosímiles, falsas identidades, amores a primera vista, mujeres disfrazadas de hombres, suplantaciones de personalidad, reconocimientos pasmosos: el protagonista pasa, de pastor, a ser miembro de la familia real. Pero en estas peripecias, muy habilidosamente hilvanadas, los hombres, grandes figurones, son simples marionetas en manos de las mujeres. Todas ellas, nobles y villanas, imponen su ley. Las aristócratas, imperiosas, incluso atropellan su estado y su honra con tal de casarse con quien ellas quieren. Y, a la postre, el triunfo es suyo, pues, siguiendo la norma de aquellos tiempos, un final feliz corona los antojos de unas hembras tan ardientes como decididas. / El burlador de Sevilla es una obra de teatro que por primera vez recoge el mito de don Juan, sin duda, el personaje más universal del teatro español. De autoría discutida, se atribuye tradicionalmente a Tirso de Molina y se conserva en una publicación de 1630, aunque tiene como precedente la versión conocida como Tan largo me lo fiais representada en Córdoba en 1617. Es una genial comedia, donde se desarrolla las aventuras amorosas de Don Juan, hombre de espíritu libertino, que siempre paraba burlándose de las mujeres y al final terminaría mal.

Resumen: Tales from Shakespeare is an English children's book written by the siblings Charles and Mary Lamb in 1807, intended "for the use of young persons" while retaining as much Shakespearean language as possible. Mary Lamb was responsible for retelling the comedies and Charles the tragedies. They omitted the more complex historical tales, including all Roman plays, and modified those they chose to retell in a manner sensitive to the needs of young children, but without resorting to actual censoring. However, subplots and sexual references were removed.

Resumen: Bernard Shaw was born in Dublin, of Protestant stock, in 1856, and died at Aot St Lawrence, Herts, in 1950. The first London perfomance of Pygmalion took place in 1914: Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and Mrs Patrick Campbell took the leading roles. From the outset in proved a sensational sucess, although Shaw, irrittated by its popularity at the expense of his artistic intentions, dismissed that Higgins and Eliza would marry he wrote a short-story epilogue with a bitter-sweet ending. Nevertheless, Shaw's dramatization of a Cockney flower girl's metamorphosis into a lady not only is a delightful fantasy but also has women's independence. Its combination of ideas and social comment, together with its rich comie characterization, make it one of the most enduring and ehtertaining of english comedies.

Resumen: L'action de cette tragédie historique se déroule à Mélitène, en Arménie romaine, au iiie siècle après Jésus-Christ, lors de la persécution des chrétiens par l'empereur romain Decius. Corneille évoque les conséquences de la conversion au christianisme de Polyeucte : conséquences psychologiques et sociales pour le converti lui-même, qui doit rompre avec ses attaches humaines, et conséquences politiques puisqu'il est le gendre du gouverneur romain, Félix. C'est aussi l'occasion pour Corneille de nous offrir des scènes d'amour conjugal entre le héros et sa femme, Pauline. Elle-même est aimée par un noble chevalier romain, Sévère, et Polyeucte, condamné au martyre, est prêt à confier sa tendre épouse à cet homme de bonne volonté. Le tragédien fait véritablement ouvre de théologien en nous montrant diverses formes de conversions : progressive chez Pauline, qui finit par adhérer au christianisme en assistant au supplice de son mari, instantanée sous l'effet de la grâce chez Félix.

Resumen: Murder in the Cathedral is a verse drama by T.S. Eliot, first performed in 1935, that portrays the assassination of Archbishop Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral in 1170. Eliot drew heavily on the writing of Edward Grim, a clerk who was an eyewitness to the event. The play, dealing with an individual's opposition to authority, was written at the time of rising fascism in Central Europe. Some material that the producer asked Eliot to remove or replace during the writing was transformed into the poem "Burnt Norton"

Resumen: Le sujet d'Esther est la délivrance des juifs qui étaient restés à Babylone après la captivité. Aman, le ministre du roi Assuérus, a menacé de les détruire parce que l'un d'eux, Mardochée, a refusé d'incliner son front devant lui. Punir ce misérable ne suffit pas à sa vengeance ; il faut qu'elle s'étende sur toute son odieuse nation. Il obtient facilement du roi un édit qui voue à la mort les juifs dispersés dans tout l'empire. Mais Mardochée veille sur ses compatriotes. Esther, l'épouse d'Assuérus, est sa nièce ; c'est lui qui t'a élevée, c'est à elle qu'il s'adressera pour qu'elle obtienne du roi la grâce de sa nation. Il compte d'autant plus sur la bienveillance d'Assuérus qu'il a sauvé celui-ci d'un complot tramé contre sa vie. La Providence semble seconder les plans de Mardochée. Le roi, tourmenté par un songe, s'est fait lire les annales de son règne qui lui ont remis en mémoire les services de Mardochée et, comme il a oublié de le récompenser, il ordonne à Aman de le conduire en triomphe dans la ville. Aman n'obéit qu'avec répugnance, mais il se console à la pensée du supplice prochain qu'il réserve à son ennemi. Cependant Esther, à la prière de son oncle, se décide, pour sauver les juifs, à pénétrer chez le roi, malgré la défense qui interdit de s'en approcher. Elle sollicite la faveur de recevoir Assuérus à sa table. Aman assistera au festin. C'est en présence du persécuteur des juifs qu'elle se jette aux pieds du roi, lui avoue qu'elle est juive et dévoile les projets sanguinaires que son ministre a formés par un motif de vengeance personnelle. Assuérus, touché des larmes de la reine et convaincu de la perfidie de son favori, révoque l'édit de proscription et livre Aman au supplice préparé pour Mardochée.
