Resumen: It has long been recognised that language are not merely neutral, structural ensembles wich allow communication between human groups sharing the same language, and, as such, it is fair to further conclude that traslation, as a phenomenon rather than a technique, does not merely invovle a search for lexical and syntactic equivalences between one linguistic structure and another, i.e languages, but is rather more complex process set withim a wider pragmaticframework of intercultural, as opposed to purely interlinguistic, exchange.

Resumen: What ever we may take as significant for the recent area of moderm society (one hesitates to call it the present state), most scholars seem to agree that we are forced ti distinguish more consequently betwen society and the nation state. Clasical modernization theory, following the pathbreaking works of Parsons, conceived society as a highly integrated, self- sufficient social system wich is by and large congruent with the nation state and its territory.

Resumen: La literatura traducida representa una categoría particular de bienes simbólicos que transitan en un sistema internacional. Su característica es que sus textos circulan fuera del contexto en el que fueron engendrados y son insertados en una cultura receptora para adquirir vida propia. La cuestión central sería cómo rendir cuentas de un flujo de obras traducidas que es tan desigual entre los varios grupos lingüísticos, así como del papel que tiene esta literatura traducida en el desarrollo de las culturas e identidades nacionales.
