Resumen: This paper proposes a model for translating English perfect tenses into Arabic based on a comparative study of two translations of Pearl Buck's novel The Good Earth. It starts with a brief introduction to tense and aspect in English and Arabic. Then it explains the study aim and technique. After that, it presents an analysis of the study results by discussing the different renderings of the English perfect tenses in the two target texts.

Resumen: In this paper attention is paid to the translation of swearing, more specifically to the problems involved in the transference of English swearing into Spanish and the translatological strategies available in order to cope with them. The original and translated versions of the screenplay of the American movie Pulp Fiction are used for illustrative purposes. The solutions adopted in the translation of this text provide evidence that, despite the lack of exact equivalence existing between the English and Spanish swearing systems, the emotional charge of English expletives may be generally rendered into Spanish without altering the stylistic register of the original, thus making possible to produce on the target audience the same effect the original produces on its audience.

Resumen: This article throws some light on the problems syntactically-complex sentences posit to Arab translation students. Despite its importance, this problem has been almost ingored by translation teachers, authors and researchers. To spell out the nature and volume of the problem, an empirical study was carried out on ten Arab students majoring in English language and translation.

Resumen: The objective of this paper is to argue that style constitutes the most intrinsic component of every literary translation act and that consideration of issues regarding the relationship of 'form' to 'content' studied in literary criticism are crucial to a successful translation. This paper also argues that form an content in a literary text can become difficult to distinguish and may need to be regarded as one and the same thing.

Resumen: Babel is a scholarly journal designed primarily for translators, interpreters and terminologists (T&I), yet of interest also for nonspecialist concerned with current issues and events in the field.
The scope of Babel is intentional and embraces a multitude of disciplines built on the following pillars: T&I theory, practice, pedagogy, technology, history, sociology, and terminology management. Another important segment of this journal includes articles on the development and evolution of the T&I professions: new disciplines, growth, recognition, Codes of Ethics, protection, and prospects.
The creation of Babel was proposed on the initiative of Pierre-François Caillé, founding president of the Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs (FIT) and approved by the first FIT Congress of 1954 in Paris. Babel continues to be published for FIT and each issue contains a section dedicated to THE LIFE OF FIT.
Articles for Babel are normally published in English or French but we also accept articles in Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish.
