Resumen: In the early pos-war decades, Translation Studies was considered to be a subdivisi'on of comparative literature or of applied linguistics, depending on the approach of the scholar concerned. Since the mid-1980s it has gained recognition as an independent discipline in its own right - or, as one might more aptly put it, given the large number of subjects with which it overlaps, an interdiscipline. This was the approach adopted for the international congress held in September 1992 at the Institute of Translation and Interpreting of the University of Vienna to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its foundation. This volume contains a selection of the 163 papers read at the Congress on topics varying from the medieval translator and cultural pluralism to computational tools and the process of simultaneous interpretation.

Resumen: Desde 2007, docentes y traductores públicos nos venimos planteando la necesidad de contar con material sistematizado e interrelacionado como estrategia de estudio, análisis y tratamiento de la traducción jurídica, acorde a nuestra geografía y a los tiempos que corren. A la complejidad que significa un emprendimiento de estas características se suma la esporádica y desarticulada tradición argentina en la reflexión sobre la traducción y en la dispersión de sus prácticas, tanto social y cultural como política y legalmente aceptadas, aceptables, rechazadas y rechazables. Un llamativo vacío intelectual, en un área particularmente sensible, dado que la traducción ha sido definida y valorada incluso entre nosotros, y desde la más temprana época de emancipación de España, como instrumento insoslayable en la construcción de una identidad propia. El presente trabajo está destinado, entonces, a un público amplio, aunque de modo especial a traductores, traductólogos, intérpretes e interpretólogos, pero también a juristas, lingüistas, sociólogos, antropólogos, politólogos, historiadores, investigadores y a todos aquellos que estén interesados en la problemática de la traducción en general y de la traducción jurídica en el contexto argentino, pues pretende analizar, interpretar y evaluar con argumentos y opiniones fundamentadas una práctica y un tema significativos y sensibles que, como decíamos, no han gozado de un desarrollo sistemático en nuestro medio.

Resumen: The interpreter-mediated communication is always an instance of intercultural communication. The interpreter therefore should shift to be the cultural mediator rather than the interpreter in the interaction. This article attempts to extend the theoretical focus in interpreting studies to cultural orientations, contexting, thus laying down a theoretical framework to address the 'role shift' of the interpreter, for instance, why an interpreter should act as a cultural mediator, where he should step in, what and how he can fulfill his role as a cultural mediator.

Resumen: Given the lack of sensitization to the multi-dimensional concept of quality, and given the versatility of the concept of relevance, the present investigation attempts to examine the premise that Relevance Theory (RT) can function as a standard or a benchmark for maximizing and/or optimizing quality in CI. Whilst the theoretical part relies heavily on Ernst-August Gutt's seminal work Translation and Relevance: Cognition and Context (2000), the practical part draws on some empirical data obtained from trainee-interpreters' recorded sessions at the Hashemite University (Jordan) in order to provide a relevance-driven account for some semantic, syntactic, and cultural difficulties and problems in CI. The study arrives at the main conclusion that the degree of quality in CI largely depends on the degree of relevance achieved by the interpreter's TL version, i.e., quality in CI would rise exponentially with the degree of relevance achieved by the interpreter's TL version. The study also concludes that the pragmatic RT can be considered a reliable instrument, a reliable frame of reference, or a reliable screening system that can ensure both relevance-building and a correspondingly concomitant quality-building in CI, i.e., RT can possibly fine-tune the interpreters' performance in the booth.

Resumen: Empezaremos por recordar que discurso es todo aquello que signifique un acto comunicativo, es decir, un registro verbalizado de un acto comunicativo. El discurso bien puede ser oral o escrito. Y se torna viable a través de diversos tipos de textos. De este modo, vemos que el texto se puede definir como el acto comunicativo con características especiales y específicas. Así, tendremos texto científico, texto literario, texto poético, de publicidad, de conversaciones, etc. Vamos a tomar al texto como centro de nuestro análisis y al análisis del texto como un proceso. Al analizar un texto y visualizarlo como un proceso, vemos que se caracteriza por: a) ser energía que fluye en forma constante y continua; b) representar una dinámica de comunicación; c) ser instrumento, medio activo [dinámico] para la expresión de significados.

Resumen: La mayoría de investigaciones parten de una sospecha o intuición que asalta al investigador en su vida cotidiana. En este caso, la investigación advirtió una situación que se venia produciendo en una asignatura que imparte en la Universidad Jaume I: la mayoría de los estudiantes matriculados en la asignatura "Interpretación Consecutiva I" parecían tener problemas para comprender el inglés, lo que dificultaba el aprendizaje de las tareas de interpretación, complejas de por sí.

Durante la celebración de su despedida académica en la Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal en julio de 2005 las muestras de afecto expresadas por los allí presentes pusieron de manifiesto que el lado humano de esta tenaz investigadora esta a la altura de sus brillante talento. Christiane Nord deja la carrera docente, pero se embarca en nuevos retos de investigación.

Resumen: Este volumen recoge las conferencias pronunciadas en la Facultad e Traducción e Interpretación de la Universidad de Granada durante el curs académico 2000/2001. Las conferencias giraron en torno a la teoría de interpretación, prosiguiendo así la línea emprendida en el curso 1999/20C de organizar ciclos anuales sobre distintas temáticas o enfoques teóricos propíos de las áreas de conocimiento que conforman los estudios de traducción e interpretación. Del 19 al 21 de abril de 2001 tuvo lugar en Almuñécar el I Congreso Internacional sobre Evaluación de la Calidad en Interpretación de Conferencias. Este congreso consiguió aglutinar a relevantes investigadores y pn fesionales del ámbito de la interpretación, lo que llevó a la Facultad a organizar el ciclo de conferencias que aquí se presenta. Estas conferencia recogidas en libro, intentan ofrecer una visión general sobre los avances de la investigación en interpretación y ser un referente para futuras inve tigaciones. En nuestra Facultad la especialización en interpretación goza de ur larga tradición.
