En: Annual Conference, 44thResumen: In an effort to improve the theoretical base and the methods by which interpreters are trained and evaluated, a parallel corpus of student interpreter renderings has been developed. One of the analyses performed on this corpus compares the types and frequency of errors of studen interpreters working into their non-native language to the errors made when working into their native language. Each error or shift is considered in terms of two factors: its effect on the conservation or distortion of the original message and the mechanics by which the error or shift occurs. Contrary to "conventional wisdom" about native-language bias in interpreted into their native or dominant language. Possible causes and remedies are presented.
