Resumen: Barton Health's goal for 2016: to provide interpreting services for its monthly support groups and community wellness lectures. The solution: remote interpreting. Since 1963, Barton Health, a community health system in California, has been committed to delivering exception health care. In an effort to adapt to the changing needs of patients, the hospital recently implemented a remote conference interpreting system, allowing experienced conference interpreters to interpret remotely for on-site meetings with non-English-speaking patients, for staff meetings with hospital leadership, and for other events. Patients listen through either their cell phones or wireless receivers that Barton Health makes available to them. What follows is the story of how the project came about, told from the perspectives of Barton's language access coordinator and one of the interpreters working remotely.

Resumen: There’s no doubt that 2021 was a difficult year—a difficult almost two years, actually. Every profession has been affected by the pandemic in a significant way, and interpreting is no exception. We’re lucky, in a way, that technology has allowed us to continue our work as legal,
conference, court, and community interpreters. I say lucky because I’m painfully aware that many other professions were not in the relatively privileged position to shift work online and simply disappeared or were decimated. So, while technology isn’t always what we want it to be, it certainly has been a lifesaver for interpreters as courts, conferences, and everything in between shut down for in-person
events and moved online.

Resumen: In February 2014, I wrote about a subject that I had hoped I would not have to address: the experience of not passing the Federal Court Interpreter Certification Examination (FCICE) for Spanish. Well, after retaking the exam last year, I'm happy to report that I passed. I was very open about writing about my failed first attempt, and now I can present you with some thoughts on passing the exam.

Resumen: A few months ago, I was asked to be part of an extensive on-site translation and review project. The catch was that the job was not located in my adopted hometown of Las Vegas, but across the country. I've worked as an in-house translator, but had not done an on-site project as a small business owner. I really enjoy new experiences, so I made a few phone calls, picked a colleague's brain and recruited her to the project, scheduled my husband's visit to come see me, packed, and signed up for up to four weeks. The client, a legal services firm, agreed to my terms, so I was all set. I didn't really know what to expect, but I was up for the challenge.
