Resumen: The increasing popularity of audiovisual translation in recent years has contributed to a better understanding of the audiovisual world. Nevertheless, some modalities such as voice-over have not received thorough attention. In Poland, where voice-over is the prevailing audiovisual, one voice talent reads out the entire dialogue list in a monotonous way. The translated version is subject to time and space restrictions, and both the original and the translated soundtracks are audible at the same time, making it interesting to analyze a key aspect of voice-over: the process of synchronization. Departing from a categorization which originated within the field of dubbing, and which was later extended and applied to the voice-over of non-fictional products by Franco, Matamala and Orero, this article aims to assess whether voice-over isochrony, literal synchrony, kinetic synchrony and action synchrony are maintained in the voice-over of fiction genres in Poland, and if so, what strategies are used to achieve this. The corpus is made up of four 15-minutes samples from movies belonging to four different genres: a comedy (Whatever Works, directed by Woody Allen 2009), a drama (Marvin's Room, directed by Jerry Zaks 1996), an action movie (Spy Game, directed by Tony Scott 2001), and a musical (Nine, directed by Rob Marshall 2009). The study highlights the specificities of synchrony in fictional movies and opens the door for future research into this previously underestimated audiovisual transfer mode.

Resumen: Drawing on cognitive linguistics and psychology, this paper attempts to model the subtitler's decision-making as involving two types of operations. They are referred to as System 1 and System 2, the former being fast, automatic and requiring little effort, and the latter being slower, controlled and effortful. To test the dual-processing hypothesis, I analyse trainee subtitlers' renditions with a focus on the construction "you + to like + me" which exemplifies a cross-language asymmetry and a potential (disguised) translation challenge. Remarkably, the English construction is employed equally-conventionally to represent the concept of being favourably disposed to somebody in a non-physical/sexual manner, on the one hand, and being attracted to somebody, on the other. In Polish, however, the "prototypes" will typically be represented as distinct expressions. The present findings suggest that because differentiating between the prototypes and coding them linguistically is not challenging to the participants, it is the automation of their judgment that leads them to settle for flawed target variants (Stage 1). Additional evidence is obtained (Stage 2) as participants are induced to go from System 1 to System 2 thinking-a cross-stage comparison indicates that the fast-to-slow switch reorients the trainees' subtitling choices and ultimately improves translation quality.

Resumen: L’article vise à présenter les différentes modifications qui pourraient être introduites dans la version polonaise du Vocabulaire européen des philosophies (VEP) sous la rédaction de Cassin. Le texte aborde le thème des intraduisibles philosophiques polonais qui pourraient faire l’objet de nouvelles entrées dans le VEP, tels que czyn, et le lexique polonais qui pourrait accompagner les entrées existantes. On commente aussi la spécificité de la langue polonaise comme langue philosophique dans le contexte des entrées du VEP consacrées aux langues. Le polonais philosophique est abordé dans une perspective historique, ce qui permet d’en montrer la création lexicale originale, présente surtout à l’époque du romantisme, ainsi que l’histoire des traductions philosophiques en langue polonaise. On commente plusieurs problèmes de traduction qui ont eu un impact sur le vocabulaire philosophique polonais et qui posent toujours des problèmes aux traducteurs et aux commentateurs des philosophies étrangères. Certains mots commentés, comme liberalism ou šaria, sont présentés dans leur contexte politique actuel. Toutes les questions sont considérées dans une perspective pratique de mise en oeuvre du projet et la dernière partie est consacrée aux changements éditoriaux concrets qui devraient être pris en compte par les traducteurs polonais.
