Resumen: Desde diferentes rincones, se amenaza con la prescindencia del traductor. Hay quienes aseguran que serán superados por los programas de traducción automática, otros creen que bastará con conocer un idioma para ejercer este trabajo. Sin embargo, los hechos demuestran que la tarea del traductor se vuelve cada día más importante y que la calidad del profesional es más que necesaria. Sin traductores de carne y hueso no hay puente cultural.

Resumen: This volume in the MIT Press Essential Knowledge series offers a concise, nontechnical overview of the development of machine translation, including the different approaches, evaluation issues, and market potential. The book begins by discussing problems that must be solved during the development of a machine translation system and offering a brief overview of the evolution of the field. It then takes up the history of machine translation in more detail, describing its pre-digital beginnings, rule-based approaches, the 1966 ALPAC (Automatic Language Processing Advisory Committee) report and its consequences, the advent of parallel corpora, the example-based paradigm, the statistical paradigm, the segment-based approach, the introduction of more linguistic knowledge into the systems, and the latest approaches based on deep learning. Finally, it considers evaluation challenges and the commercial status of the field, including activities by such major players as Google and Systran.

Resumen: Los turistas anglófonos que visiten Santander quizá piensen que al recorrer el Centro Botín conozcan una especie de museo de la piratería. La culpable es la web oficial de turismo de Santander, que traduce literalmente el apellido del famoso banquero y convierte el Centro Botín en el Loot Center o "centro del saqueo". No es el único error que contiene la página, que el Ayuntamiento de la capital cántabra, gobernado por el Partido Popular, presentó para la feria Fitur 2018. Historic helmet por "casco histórico" es otro de los principales horrores que los tuiteros no han tardado en detectar.
