Resumen: Este artículo estudia la postura mediada en los titulares de noticias transeditados sobre el conflicto comercial China-EE. UU. De 2018. Se basa en la teoría de la evaluación desarrollada por Martin y White (2005) para examinar la posición del transeditor a través de un análisis de 66 titulares de noticias en inglés y 50 titulares chinos. Los textos en inglés fueron recopilados de los principales medios de comunicación estadounidenses, mientras que los textos en chino fueron elegidos de las principales prensas de China. El resultado del análisis muestra que cuando los titulares de las noticias se transeditan del inglés al chino, la mediación de la postura normalmente suena negativa hacia Estados Unidos y positiva hacia China. Las investigaciones también encuentran que las prensas chinas seleccionadas adoptan predominantemente la postura mediada en patrones heteroglosos, mientras que los medios de comunicación en inglés tienden a usar monoglosios. Se argumenta que las posibles razones para tal desviación de postura pueden incluir tendencias ideológicas de los medios, diferentes lectores y sus expectativas de los medios estadounidenses y chinos, y las diferentes creencias socioculturales entre los dos países.

Resumen: Much has been said about how ideological tendencies can influence the content of a translation and the Spanish version of Prescott's work History of the Conquest of Mexico, with a Preliminary View of the Ancient Mexican Civilization, and the Life of the Conqueror, Hernando Cortés is a clear example of this influence. Manipulation was the strategy that the Mexican editorial promoted and it is what the translator yielded to, but not in a way that was expected. Focusing on the account of the episode of the conquest of Mexico in which Montezuma and his tragic death are prominent, this article will show how Navarro, the translator, meticulously respects the North American's portrayal of the Aztec ruler, whom he considers to be hypocritical, superstitious, lavish, weak and fainthearted. When Navarro does manipulate the description, it is principally in order to accentuate some negative trait of the Aztec leader which has already been presented in the original text or to prevent the Mexican reader from having to see in print the name of the emperor who was associated with incidents which many Mexicans might consider lamentable. At the same time, it will be clear that cognitive linguistics provides adequate theoretical support in order to be able to comprehend that both the original and translated texts highlight the idea of Montezuma as a metaphor and symbol of failure.

Resumen: Este artículo estudia la manipulación de la traducción con fines propagandísticos en la crisis del Golfo que ha conducido al embargo económico contra Catar desde junio de 2017. Se centra en Al-Ittihad, un diario en lengua árabe que poseen los Emiratos Árabes Unidos. Los datos provienen de la sección de noticias serias (hard news) dedicada a diario a Catar desde el principio de la crisis. Al combinar la teoría de las narrativas con la de la valoración, arroja luz sobre el uso de la traducción periodística como arma ideológica. Yendo más allá del argumento reductor de la domesticación, este doble enfoque teórico permite articular mejor el contexto sociopolítico con las estrategias de traducción al aproximar los niveles micro y macro de análisis y así desvelar los engranajes de la propaganda en la manera de traducir las noticias en Al-Ittihad. Desde la transedición de las atribuciones a fuentes extranjeras hasta la concepción intersemiótica del diseño gráfico del diario, la manera de traducir las noticias incrusta narrativas personales y colectivas en los niveles micro y macro de la sección de noticias sobre Catar, construyendo una evaluación negativa del país. Tras una fachada de desapasionamiento y de neutralidad, el discurso propagandístico de los belicistas se ve alimentado por las noticias serias y la traducción sobre las que se construyen.

Resumen: Translation as a cultural process can be used in various ways to suppress or promote ideologies. Within the framework of Critical Studies in Translation, this article examines the presence of the phenomenon of manipulation; that is, deliberate alteration of central topics and messages for ideological purposes, in the Spanish translation of the story The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde. It proposes that Wilde's specific intent in using the fairy tale genre to battle heterosexism (the belief that heterosexuality is the only norm) is not transmitted in any of the Spanish versions of the story, since its English publication in 1888 to the twenty-first century. The analysis proves that all twelve translations of the story found, included the famous translation by Jorge Luis Borges in 1910, manipulate the sex and sexuality of the characters by taking advantage of the commonly perceived ambiguities between the grammatical and cultural gender in Spanish. This is done in such a way that one of the messages of the story, the redemption of homosexual love and its acceptance by God, is omitted entirely to become, and promote, the standard and conventional view of sexuality that dominates contemporary Western tradition. The article finishes by pointing out the linguistic choices that need to be considered for a new translation of the story and provides the translation of a passage as an example.

Resumen: Este volumen pretende hacerse eco sobre algunas líneas de investigación que se están desarrollando actualmente en el panorama internacional. Las contribuciones que incluye han sido elaboradas por jóvenes investigadores, que se están haciendo hueco con sus novedosas ideas en este ámbito. Se trata de un total de diez capítulos que sirven como muestra de la gran variedad de estudios que se están elaborando en torno a la Traducción y la Interpretación en los últimos años tanto dentro como fuera de nuestras fronteras. Se desarrollan en ámbitos distintos (como los servicios públicos, el ámbito jurídico, el comercio exterior, la interpretación de conferencias o la lexicografía) y con la ayuda de métodos de investigación muy diversos y, de este modo, son representativos de la multidisciplinariedad, vastedad y complejidad de la investigación en este ámbito. Estas investigaciones que aquí se presentan y muchas otras avanzan cada día vertiginosamente y se multiplican, por lo que este volumen se espera que sea el primero de otros muchos que recojan nuevas colecciones de investigaciones traductológicas emergentes.

Resumen: The present study aims to shed light on the notion of manipulation in the process of translating. It explores the manipulative side of translation and its possible impacts and effects on the meaning and effect intended by the ST.Translated transcript of a speech delivered by Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden on the 29th of October 2004 is studied. The speech was broadcasted on Aljazeera Arabic News Channel and translated by various governmental and non-governmental organisations (bin-Laden 2004); however, this study analyses CNN's translation and considers it as a TT.The study adopts Juliane House's revised model of translation evaluation as it provides for the analysis and comparison of original text and its translation at four different levels: Language/Text, Register (Field, Mode and Tenor), Genre, and Function (House 1997).
