Resumen: En la actualidad el número de turistas, inmigrantes y trabajadores de otras nacionalidades que viven en el país va creciendo de forma desorbitada. Cada vez más, estas personas que tienen que hacer frente a las dificultades que les van surgiendo en su vida diaria, entre las que se encuentran las relacionadas con permisos de vivienda, de residencia e incluso el acceso a asistencia sanitaria. Por eso es necesario que estos servicios tengan presente la necesidad de poder ofrecer ayuda en distintos idiomas, al menos en los más comunes. El servicio de emergencias 112 Andalucía lleva 3 años prestando ayuda en cuestiones de seguridad ciudadana, asistencia sanitaria, extinción de incendios, protección civil y salvamento marítimo. Presta servicio durante 24 horas al día, los 365 días del año y cuenta con operadores que llevan a cabo teletraducción en inglés, francés, alemán y árabe.

Resumen: Esta norma fue desarrollada en respuesta a una situación generalizada para atender la necesidad de interpretación para personas privadas de libertad, sospechosos, imputados, acusado, demandados, actores, demandantes, denunciantes, querellantes, testigos, víctimas, las partes en las diferentes ac-tuaciones de asuntos legales durante la comunicación oral o en lengua de señas y también contempla las necesidades de las partes interesadas del ámbito judicial tales como jueces, aboga-dos, fiscales, funcionarios policiales, personal administrativo de los tribunales, escribanos así como también ciudadanos privados que requieran de servicios de interpretación durante eventos comunica-tivos en el ámbito del derecho.
El derecho a recibir servicios de interpretación jurídica ha sido consagrado en varios documentos in-ternacionales (ver Anexo A). La interpretación jurídica requiere la calidad suficiente para asegurar el acceso igualitario a la justicia y a juicios equitativos para todos.

Resumen: riminal justice systems throughout the world are becoming increasingly aware of the challenges posed by language barriers. However, that awareness is still limited to the realm of court proceedings, whereas legislation aiming to protect language rights of foreign prisoners is scarce and vague. In the particular case of Spain, only a few provisions in the Prison Rules envisage the notion of language assistance, making it explicit that such support is to be provided by other prisoners or staff. This paper aims to analyze the implications of an underdeveloped language policy in the realm of Spanish penitentiary institutions, focusing on how the specific measures stemming from that policy affect the rights of imprisoned foreign nationals. Against the backdrop of the limited legislative coverage of language issues, communication strategies seem to be based on the linguistic assimilation of foreign language-speaking inmates, either to communicate directly with staff or to serve as interpreters for newly arrived fellow inmates. Causes and consequences of these strategies are discussed in this paper, including an analysis of the quality of the interpretations that nonprofessional prisoner-interpreters are able to provide.

Resumen: Every interpreter has surely had excruciating nightmares about a panicky moment at the microphone, and my guest today is no different. (In one instance, she recalls waking up clutching her pillow, relieved to find that her ghastly moment was just a dream.) She has written about her experiences as a United Nations interpreter. Lynn Visson is a New Yorker of Russian heritage who has spent a lifetime engaged with her languages as a teacher, writer, translator, and interpreter. (Her husband was also Russian.) She has a PhD in Slavic languages and literature from Harvard University. After teaching Russian language and literature at several American colleges, including Columbia University, and freelance interpreting for a while, she became a staff interpreter at the UN in 1980, working from Russian and French into English. Retired since 2005 but still freelancing, Visson is also translating, teaching interpreting, and is a consulting editor at Hippocrene Books, a New York publisher specializing in dictionaries and language text books.

Resumen: Los servicios de interpretación de las instituciones comunitarias son en definitiva una de las mejores salidas laborales para los intérpretes formados en las universidades de España en cuanto a condiciones de trabajo, remuneración y estabilidad. Acceder a un puesto en ellos puede parecer para muchos un sueño inalcanzable y es cierto que no son pocos los que intentan y que no pueden menospreciarse la dificultad que reviste, pero en cualquier caso el intérprete recién formado o a punto de concluir su formación en la especialidad de interpretación de una universidad española debe saber que sus posibilidades de acceso al mercado comunitario han mejorado mucho en los últimos años.

Resumen: As a participant in interpersonal communications, the interpreter is subject to a number of different and sometimes conflicting ethical constraints. It may be argued that the interpreter negotiates between three main ethical spheres: that of the professions they provide interpreting service to, that of the interpreting profession, and the personal ethics of the interpreter himself. This article compares the ways translators and interpreters define their ethical positions in terms of paratexts and framing. The author argues that while paratexts are not available for the interpreter to define and delimit his ethical position, there are other factors that effectively frame this position. These factors are either controlled by the interpreter himself, encoded in the codes of his professional association or stipulated by the regulations of the profession that he provides interpreting service to. By examining how such factors intersect, the author believes that it is ultimately personal ethics that prevail in the ethical positioning of the interpreter. From such an understanding the article seeks in particular to define the ways in which an interpreter frames her personal ethical position in the interpreting setting.

Resumen: Barton Health's goal for 2016: to provide interpreting services for its monthly support groups and community wellness lectures. The solution: remote interpreting. Since 1963, Barton Health, a community health system in California, has been committed to delivering exception health care. In an effort to adapt to the changing needs of patients, the hospital recently implemented a remote conference interpreting system, allowing experienced conference interpreters to interpret remotely for on-site meetings with non-English-speaking patients, for staff meetings with hospital leadership, and for other events. Patients listen through either their cell phones or wireless receivers that Barton Health makes available to them. What follows is the story of how the project came about, told from the perspectives of Barton's language access coordinator and one of the interpreters working remotely.
