Resumen: German-language approaches to translation have been revolutionized by the theory of action (Handlungstheorie) and the related theory of translation's goal or purpose (Skopostheorie). Both these approaches are functionalist: they seek to liberate translators from servitude to the source text, seeing translation as a new communicative act that must be purposeful with respect to the translator's client and readership. As one of the leading figures in this field, Christiane Nord gives the first full survey of functionalist approaches in English. She explains the complexities of the theories and their terms, using simple language with numerous examples. The book includes an overview of how the theories developed, illustrations of the main ideas, and specific applications to translator training, literary translation, interpreting and ethics. The survey concludes with a concise review of the criticisms that have been made of the theories, together with perspectives for the future development of functionalist approaches.

Resumen: Manuel Belgrano, uno de los más importantes próceres de la historia argentina, fue vocal de la Primera Junta de Gobierno, formada en 1810. También participó activamente en política y comandó los ejércitos patriotas. Además, sus intereses intelectuales se canalizaron en el campo del derecho, de la economía y del periodismo. Durante el tiempo en que se desempeñó como secretario del Consulado de Comercio, tradujo del francés unos Principios de la ciencia económicopolítica y las Máximas generales de Quesnay. En 1813 publicó su segunda traducción de la Despedida de George Washington. El presente trabajo busca estudiar el origen y las circunstancias históricas de esta versión en español -aparentemente la primera- de uno de los textos más importantes del primer presidente de los Estados Unidos. Belgrano veía en esta traducción un aporte a los ideales de sus conciudadanos y a la prosperidad de la patria naciente. Asimismo, se analizará el trabajo de Belgrano como traductor del inglés, que -desde el punto de vista de la crítica de la traducción- puede ser valorado muy positivamente.

Resumen: Introducing translation studies is an introductory textbook providing an accessible overview of the key contributions to translation studies. Munday explores each theory chapter by chapter and tests the different approaches by applying them to texts. The texts discussed are taken from a broad range of languages - English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Punjahi, Portuguese and Spanish - and English translations are provided. Resumen: El texto The Plough and the stars, del dramaturgo irlandés Sean O'Casey (1884-1964), al que apenas se ha prestado atención en lengua castellana. Este drama, es la tercera obra de una trilogía de tema dublinés (Junto con Juno and the Paycock y The Shadow of a Gunman), de la cual sólo la que nos ocupa ha sido traducida, con el título de El arado y las estrella, tarea acometida por Jesús Fomperosa.
