Resumen: Conocemos muy bien los mitos que todavía persisten sobre nuestra tarea y que, esperamos, con el afianzamiento de nuestra profesión pronto desaparezcan. Aún en los casos en que se reconozca que traducir es, por lo menos, un oficio específico, muchos creen que: a) El traductor trabaja completamente solo b) una traducción de unas 15000 palabras puede hacerse en un par de horas y no debería costar más de 50 pesos c) se puede encargar la traducción a una de las personas mencionadas anteriormente y pedirle al traductor que la "revise" en, digamos, una hora, y a la mitad de precio de la traducción imaginado por el cliente d) si el traductor utiliza una memoria de traducción, el trabajador debería costar muchísimo menos e) cuando sólo se necesita saber qué dice el documento (para presentarse a una licitación o decidir si se interviene o no en un negocio, por ejemplo) basta con una traducción "aproximada".
