Resumen: This article investigates wordplay clusters ("Wortspielketten") in the comic series 'Asterix'. It focuses on Delabastita's five translational strategies which he developed for film and T.V. translations (repetitio, adiectio, detractio, transmutatio and subsitutio) and their adaptability in this case-study.

Resumen: This paper examines the use of third-person pronouns in the Book of Matthew from three Chinese translated Bibles, namely the Union Version (1890-1919), 'Lü Zhenzhong Version' (1949-1952) and the Chinese Contemporary Version (1992-present), in order to elucidate the effect of language development and different translation principles on the language styles used over the past 100 years.

Resumen: The use of referring expressions (proper nouns, noun phrases [NPs] and pronouns) in a target language [TL] text may differ from the source language [SL] text with regard to how explicit they are: One may have a pronoun (less explicit) where the other has a proper noun (more explicit), or one may have an indefinite NP (less explicit) where the other has a difinite NP (more explicit). But ar these differences in any way systematic?

Resumen: This article deals on how new information technologies can be applied to interpreter training, a field of researche still in its early stages. The use of a digital interpreting laboratory and the new teaching paths that are now open through the internet, such as interpreting e- or distance learning, are explored, such as the use of new digitalized sources of input for interpreting practice and the convenient storage and retrieval of student exercises on a digital format.

Resumen: In the teaching of a second/third foreign language for translators and interpreters it is important to consider the receptor group with their special needs and purposes from the beginning. Therefore the classes should work with themes related to the translator's profession and face up to the academic reality: usually in Spain ata university only a few hours of classes are offered and students begin their studies without any knowledge in the foreign language.

Resumen: Babel is a scholarly journal designed primarily for translators, interpreters and terminologists (T&I), yet of interest also for nonspecialist concerned with current issues and events in the field. The scope of Babel is intentional and embraces a multitude of disciplines built on the following pillars: T&I theory, practice, pedagogy, technology, history, sociology, and terminology management. Another important segment of this journal includes articles on the development and evolution of the T&I professions: new disciplines, growth, recognition, Codes of Ethics, protection, and prospects. The creation of Babel was proposed on the initiative of Pierre-François Caillé, founding president of the Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs (FIT) and approved by the first FIT Congress of 1954 in Paris. Babel continues to be published for FIT and each issue contains a section dedicated to THE LIFE OF FIT. Articles for Babel are normally published in English or French but we also accept articles in Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish.
