Resumen: Dice Rolando Costa Picazo, como conclusión, que las versiones de Faulkner al castellano no satisfacen de manera plena, lo que se debe a la serie de factores históricos, económicos y culturales principalmente y al hecho de que en la traducción de un escritor de primera magnitud no se ha seguido un criterio de lo que llamamos "traducción ajustada". No se trata del tan vapuleado criterio de la literalidad, que sabemos imposible de aplicar "literalmente", sino de un enfoque que, sin forzar las normas del castellano, procure en lo posible respetar las características del estilo del autor que se traduce.

Resumen: The case study examined in depth is a comparison analysis of the classical English novel Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy, which has been translated into Chinese seven times, with seven versions preserving the novel form of the original. The present study will elaborate on the differences between two Chinese versions of Tess of the D'Urbervilles, one is Zhang Guruo's version translated in 1934, and the other is Sun Zhili's version translated in 1999, with regard to language style, literature, concept, acceptance of context, as well as the different translation strategies translators adopted in different historical, social and cultural contexts. The study also examines the special role played in the process by the two translations. The present paper thus contributes both to translation studies and to literary theory. The comparison is carried out by answering the following questions: - What are the social cultural impacts on the first translation and the retranslation? - What kind of selection tendencies do the two translators have? - What are the specific translation strategies adopted by the translators in the field of social customs, history and religion, literature and art, Bible and other allusions, literature and historical figures? Why?

Resumen: "The acclaimed Canadian novelist Margaret Atwood published The Edible Woman in 1969 when feminism was becoming an influential trend in North America. Although this story has a radical feminist voice, The Edible Woman was translated by a male translator, Oura Akio, in 1996, and his language choice for the protagonist is excessively feminine. (...) In the Japanese translation, readers are likely to find a contradictory figure in Marian and she seems to be happy to use impeccable women's language given and promoted by male-dominant authorities. (...) This fact interferes with the novel's feminist purpose. I therefore examine the effect of Maian's language use in the Japanese translation from a reader-response theory and a relevance theory point of view."

Resumen: This paper attempts to apply the functionalist approaches to a comparative study of the two English versions of Hongloumeng in terms of the translation of culture-specific items. The author tries to explore the important role the translation skopos and translation brief play in the choice of translation strategies and offers some comments on the legitimacy of these strategies employed. The analysis of the translation of culture-specific items is conducted in the following five subcultures: ecology, material culture, social culture, religious culture and linguistic culture. Through both a qualitative analysis and quantitative data in which 190 samples covering five cultural categories are collected randomly from the first 80 chapters, the research reveals that the two translators of Hongloumeng employ different strategies in most cases, namely, the Yangs mostly adopt foreignization in order to introduce the Chinese cultural heritage, while Hawkes employs domestication with a purpose of reaching out to the target reader.

Sow Fall es una escritora senegalesa y ésta es su cuarta obra. Todos sus trabajos versan sobre la sociedad contemporánea africana y sobre el choque entre las prácticas tradicionales y las corrientes modernizadoras de las naciones en vías de industrialización. En The Former Father of the Nation (traducción al inglés de la obra), Madiama, un hombre normal y honrado, ha accedido a la presidencia de su país por aclamación popular. Aunque sus intenciones son buenas, no posee la habilidad maquiavélica para tratar con sus consejeros hambrientos de poder ni la capacidad necesaria para sacar a su país de la situación económica que ha heredado. La historia es, pues, una crónica del fracaso de un gobernante desinteresado".
