Resumen: 1.000 lenguas es un viaje lingüístico a través del mundo que explora los orígenes, las relaciones y las características de las diversas lenguas. Abarca todas las lenguas del globo, desde las más extendidas hasta aquellas que son minoritarias, y contiene apartados sobre las lenguas en peligro y las extintas. En todo el mundo hay alrededor de 6.000 lenguas en uso, desde aquellas que hablan cientos de millones de personas a las que solo hablan unos pocos. Todas tienen amplios vocabularios para describir el medio, los actos, los pensamientos y los sentimientos. Este libro esta organizado por zonas geográficas. Cada entrada muestra el número de hablantes, la distribución geográfica, el origen, la evolución y otras características importantes de las lenguas. Hay dos apartados dedicados a las lenguas en peligro y a las lenguas extintas, y un apartado con mapas que muestran la distribución de los grupos lingüísticos.

Resumen: La presente ponencia tiene como objetivo llamar la atención sobre un tema que no se menciona muy a menudo como problema de traducción. Se trata del aspecto verbalenfocado desde la perspectiva de la traducción de dos lenguas tan distintas como lo son el slovenoy el español puesto que pertenecen a dos grupos lingüísticos diferentes, al eslavo y al románico respectivamente. El problema del aspecto verbal se plantea en la traducción en general y en la traducción literaria en especial ya que los medios lingüísticos mediante los cuáles el hablante/narrador señala el aspecto tienen también un importante valor estilístico.

Resumen: Translation and interpreting are not only linguistic activities, but also to a large extent primarily activities of cultural transfer. Transcultural communication displays complexity, diversity and readiness for conflict in communicative interaction, so the interpreter/translator, as an intercultural mediator, is assigned a special communicative role in this regard. This article examines how interpreters at the European Parliament deal with controversial language rendering evaluative components of political statements as well as whether there is a rise in stress-related disfluencies in the interpretation of such statements and whether intonation (dis)similarities between the source text and the interpretations occur in the context of cultural and lexical know-how. Seven excerpts from four sessions of the European Parliament in the last six years and their interpretations into Croatian, Slovene, English, French and German were analysed from the point of view of stress and culture. Deviations in pitch and intensity levels of both the speaker and the interpreters were calculated and statistically compared in the light of differing cultural know-how. The intonation results for these interpreting examples showed that all the interpreters followed the speaker's pitch deviations to a certain extent. Analysis of politically-controversial statements also revealed that more than 80 o/ of the interpretations selected contained stress-related disfluencies and almost 70 o/ contained some form of discrepancy with the source text at a lexical level. The interpretations therefore largely contained fewer negative evaluative components of controversial language than the speakers in the European Parliament.

Resumen: The purpose of this article is to describe and explore the examples of domestication and foreignization in translations of American prose read by Slovenian children. A few of the earlier American books that have entered the children’s literature canon have been read by dual audience and among these Uncle Tom’s Cabin has the longest tradition. The translations of the novel are presented in the light of domestication and foreignization endeavours. In order to complete and expand the picture of translating for children, a few additional works published in different eras of Slovenian translation history are briefly discussed.

Resumen: Este esbozo de análisis de la significación aspectual en el enunciado demuestra de nuevo que el posterior desarrollo de la gramática CFS y CS, en gran medida, está relacionado con la investigación del "sistema del habla". Objeto de análisis deben ser las funciones realizadas en el habla como resultado de la interacción de los elementos del sistema lingüístico y del medio. Una atención especial habrá de prestarse a los elementos de dicha interacción que se relacionan con los procesos mentalo-verbales vivos de la comunicación.

Resumen: The aim of the pilot study is to draw attention to the importance of online translation tools as a contemporary didactic tool in the language and translation educational process. In the paper the following hypotheses were tested: (i) use of free online translation tools can contribute to the development of ICT competences; (ii) use of modern translation tools contribute to the consistency and quality; (iii) free online translation tools for under-resourced languages can be used as pedagogical tools.

Resumen: This article examines how racist discourse about African-Americans has been translated from English into Slovenian throughout history. Strategies for translating explicitly racist discourse, racial terminology and African American Vernacular English in translations published between 1853 and 2007 are analyzed. The results of the textual comparison are considered in the light of contemporary Slovenian attitudes towards black people and the socio-political situation in the target culture. The results show that the strategies for translating racist discourse in pre-World War II translations differed significantly from those used after a socialist regime was established in Slovenia. Translation strategies were also influenced by the important role that the Slovenian language played in the development of the national identity, by the target readership of the translations, as well as by contemporary relations between the source and target culture. Ideological interventions sometimes considerably affected the interpretive possibilities of a particular literary work.
