Resumen: This article is dedicated to the issue of the adequacy of self-translations of Vladimir Nabokov's small forms of fiction. Different types of transformations of short-story titles in the creative work of the bilingual writer were chosen as the object of the research. The article is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach, uniting aspects of linguistic, literary and cultural studies in the investigation of the self-translation phenomenon, an approach that provides for scientifically-grounded conclusions. The authors of the paper build a typology of structural and semantic changes reflecting the features of Nabokov's interpretations of his own texts. Contrastive comparative, structural, intertextual and cognitive methods were employed as the main research methods. This complex approach to text analysis used in the paper permits an expansion of the idea of the semantics and poetics of separate texts as well as a collection of stories as a whole. The authors pay special attention to investigation of the following types of correlation between the original title and its equivalent: semantic specification, semantic narrowing, semantic broadening and modulation. The authors note that Nabokov in many cases does not follow his own principles of "literality". The specializing character of correlation between the original text and the translation is predetermined by the author's aspiration to convey the exact sense and to emphasize separate connotative shades of meaning, while devices of modulation and semantic broadening perform the function of an author's comment.

Resumen: Se analiza el modo en que trabajan los traductores en el momento en que estalla una conflagración bélica, haciéndose especial referencia a los traductores, tanto civiles como militares, que trabajaron con el Ejército de Defensa de Israel en el transcurso de la denominada Guerra de los Seis Días, en junio de 1967. Las conclusiones que de este trabajo se extrajeran son aplicables a cualesquiera otros conflictos bélicos en cualquier parte del mundo y en cualquier momento histórico.

Resumen: Reconocida traductora del ruso, Sonia Bravo Utrera, se doctoró en Ciencias Filosóficas en la Universidad "Patricio Lumumba" de Moscú. Desde entonces ha enseñado Literatura y Traducción literaria en diferentes Universidades de Cuba y ha realizado numerosas traducciones de escritores rusos. En 1992, recibió el premio Nacional de Traducción Literaria. En el mes de septiembre, vino a Buenos Aires, invitada por el CTPCBA, para participar en las V Jornadas Profesionales. En esa oportunidad, tuvimos ocasión de mantener una entrevista con ella.

Resumen: Entre los escritores rusos de la segunda mitad del siglo XX Dovlátov merece una atención especial, ya que hoy en día es uno de los escritores más leídos por el público ruso, considerado clásico de la prosa humorística del siglo. El punto más complicado de la traducción de la obra de Dovlátov es la diferencia de las culturas. El trabajo crucial del traductor consiste en mantenerse en el punto de tensión entre las lenguas y las culturas, pues la extrema domesticación puede eliminar una gran parte de significados e intenciones del autor, y la extrema extranjerización puede llevar a la pérdida de la expresividad, "matar" la comicidad del texto y no dejar al lector disfrutar de la obra.

Resumen: Political identification has been generally ignored in Translation Studies, though the correlation of politics and translation has been an interest to many scholars since the late half of last century. An examination of the influence of political identification on translation of the Soviet laws in China in three periods (1917-1927, 1927-1949, and 1950s), offers a model of incorporating political identification in Translation Studies in general and in Pym's ethics of interculturality in particular. During the period of National Democratic Revolution (1917-1927), Sun Yat-sen's determination of learning from the Soviet Union brings the chance to start over and makes a beginning of translating the Soviet laws in China; the period of Revolutionary Base Areas (1927-1949) sees a large number of the Soviet laws translated and introduced in China due to the influence of the Soviet Union to the CPC and the latter's aspiration to apply the spirit of the Soviet systems in their practice; the years after the founding of PRC in 1950s witnesses a large-scale translation of the Soviet laws in China because of the new China's foreign policy of "leaning to one side" advanced by Chairman Mao Tse-tung. The analysis of the relationship between China's political identification with the old Soviet bloc and the number of published translations of the Soviet laws in China suggests a possible structural correlation: high political identification will generally result in an increase in the number of published translations in other cultures. This point of view is ignored by so many translation scholars, thus, a blind area, a lacuna, in Translation Studies. Hopefully this paper will serve as an initial step in focusing attention on this important issue, or, make more people interested in it. Of course, the link between these factors needs to be confirmed by studies of other countries.

Resumen: La ponencia que propone el autor está dedicada a uno de los problemas mas complicados y menos estudiados en la teoría y práctica de la traducción, que es el problema de la equivalencia de la traducción como criterio básico de su valoración y apreciación. "Como es sabido, las mismas interpretaciones del concepto de equivalencia que nos proponen los especialistas en el tema son bastante contradictorias y frecuentemente reducen este concepto interpretándolo como 'fidelidad semántica de la traducción' ".

Resumen: This article focuses specifically on two examples of fantasy stories and their translations into Russian: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (Lewis 1950), a classic English fantasy story, and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Rowling 1997), a modern blending of fantasy with the traditional English school story. The analysis shows that the approach to translation is largely random. In the translations of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, there is some evidence of simplification as a strategy, and some confusion over the appropriate translation of cultural items in the translations of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Generally, however, the translators are shown not to have attempted to situate the stories in a Russian context, and have retained intact both the cultural backdrop and the moral values put forward in the works. A study of the reception of such works by young readers would provide valuable information about the success or failure of the translations discussed in this article.

Resumen: En este artículo se pretende tratar el enfoque descriptivo y comparativo aplicable tanto a la teoría como a la práctica de la traducción. Este tema resulta vital a la hora de disertar sobre la traducción con seriedad y lógica científica, a pesar de que hay quien intenta postular casi a priori ciertos principios, normas y métodos, olvidándose de que - tal y como dijo W. Resumen: El verbo ruso y su complicada derivación es uno de los puntos de mayor complejidad para aquellos que traducen de ruso a otra lengua extranjera. Son diversas las teorías que han intentado dar explicación a este fenómeno, destacando entre ellas la teoría de las modificaciones y las mutaciones [Dokunil M, Miloslavski I.G.1980, 1981, Petrújina E.V1994]. El presente trabajo supone la aplicación de la teoría de las modificaciones y las mutaciones dentro de un campo semántico concreto [en nuestro caso el campo semántico elegido ha sido el de los verbos de destrucción]. El resultado del análisis ha sido una sistematización de las modificaciones y mutaciones características de los verbos de destrucción, así como la elaboración de las normas que permiten traducir al castellano las mutaciones y modificaciones descritas.
