Resumen: "Philip Caputo begins his account of a soldier in war (as a U.S. soldier in Vietnam) with a characterization true for most war tales: "This is simply a story about war, about the things men do in war and the things war does to them" (Caputo 1996 :xiii). This glib assumption that men are the subjects of war, both passive and active -what they do and what is done to them- energizes Japanese novelist Saegusa Kazuko's (b. 1929)writing. She wrestles, in her fiction, against a tradition that often treats war as an experience exclusive to men. She fictionalizes her experience of war, as a woman, in the face of gendered discourses...."
