According to Merriam-Webster OnLine, the term: voice-over dates back to the late 1940s, and refers to a production technique where the voice of an unseen speaker is broadcast live or prerecorded in a variety of media. The voice-over may be spoken by someone who also appears on the screen, or it may be performedb by a specialist voice actor.... This article is based on a presentation made by the authors earlier this year for the New England Translators Association (www.netaweb.org)
