Professor Kiralfy's The English Legal System is a widely-used standard textbook on a subject essential to all law students. It describes the present English court system, the procedure followed in civil and criminal cases and the use of legal authorities by the courts, and incorporates a historical account of the development of the courts and the main fields of substantive law. The new edition has been substantially re-written to take account of the Courts Act 1971, which drastically changed much of the court system in England and Wales, amongst other things by the introduction of the Crown Courts and the Family Division of the High Court and the modification of the jury system.
