Resumen: In Spain, as in the rest of the non-Anglophone Western world, English-language film titles have become texts (or paratexts) of great cultural importance. The titles of the films that one may encounter in Western cinema can be considered, on the one hand ephemeral, elusive, and inconsequential. However, on the other hand, despite their clear irrelevance, film titles are considered to be the genuine contemporary cultural texts, for their continued presence in the media and for their evocative nature: an important marketing tool. Moreover, the result of what happens when film titles are translated into other languages and cultures has always intrigued the audience: this is perhaps indicative of the vast universe of translation studies. The differences between languages are palpable, not only from a linguistic point of view but also from a pragmatic, historical or cultural standpoint. In this paper, we deal with the translation of Quentin Tarantino's film titles into a number of European languages, including Spanish, Catalan, French and German. Quentin Tarantino's films are controversial, self-reflexive and have acquired a significant recognition within popular culture. Most of the typologies employed so far have revolved around the notion of 'fidelity" in the translation of film titles, and involving such strategies as literal translation, transposition, addition, etc. We wish to propose here another avenue for investigation: that of film-title translation as a complex (and globalised) rewriting phenomenon that benefits the commercial and ideological interests of the film industry.

Resumen: El presente libro tiene como objetivo principal dilucidar los diferentes aspectos tanto socioculturales como socioeconómicos que plantea la traducción del género textual del anuncio publicitario en inglés, español y alemán, para ello, se presenta la traducción y la publicidad en el escenario de la globalización.

Resumen: The futility of decades of government efforts to disseminate Chinese literature has triggered discussions among Chinese scholars on how to translate and who should be entrusted with this task. Some blame the failure on traditional concepts of translation that overemphasize faithfulness to the original to the point of disregarding target cultural conditions, but others insist that China should have control over its cultural export and that Sino-English should be used to internationalize English. Findings show that traditional concepts should not be blamed, as aggressively source-oriented strategies have been used in outbound translation only in recent years, and that this shift in translation norms in government-initiated outbound translation has spread to non-literary text types, and also to Hong Kong and Taiwan. The same kind of aggressiveness has recently been displayed in other forms of cultural export, triggering resistance in other cultures. All these changes may be attributable to a heightening of cultural self-image. What is needed to address the issue is cultural self-reflection, which will lead to the awareness that economic growth does not immediately bring cultural prestige, and that source-initiated cultural export efforts may make little difference in central cultures. Cultural awareness at a higher level can be achieved only through empathy.

Resumen: Desde hace unas décadas, Chile participa activamente del fenómeno de la globalización debido a la adopción del modelo de desarrollo económico y social sustentado en la economía social de mercado. En este contexto, se producen intercambios a todo nivel, principalmente en los ámbitos económico, social y cultural. Estos intercambios influyen inexorablemente en el uso y, por ende, en la evolución de la lengua de las comunidades participantes, sobre todo en aquellas culturas más receptivas. Ahora bien, la mayor parte de estos intercambios se llevan a cabo en lengua inglesa, razón por la que vocablos de origen anglosajón se introducen en la lengua vernácula a través de la prensa e influyen en la cultura receptora. En este trabajo se presentan pruebas de la presencia en la prensa escrita chilena de anglicismos que corresponden a distintos ámbitos de la actividad humana. Los objetivos de este estudio fueron analizar los anglicismos presentes en la prensa, determinar su frecuencia de uso e inferir las posibles razones de su adopción por parte de los hablantes. Para llevar a cabo este trabajo se seleccionaron los anglicismos recopilados por la Antena Chilena de Neología entre los años 2007 y 2008 y, posteriormente, se cuantificaron y clasificaron de acuerdo a diversos parámetros.

Resumen: This volume contains the texts of each of the agreements reached at the conclusion of the <Uruguay Round> in December 1993. It also contains the related decisions taken at the same time and those taken later at the <Ministerial Meeting in Marrakesh> in April 1994. The Final Act of the Uruguay Round and the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the <World Trade Organization> (the <WTO> Agreement) were signed at the Marrakesh Ministerial Meeting. In addition, some delegations signed one or more of the four plurilateral agreements referred to in Annex 4 of the WTO Agreement. The WTO Agreement includes the "General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1994". This instrument, known as "<GATT 1994>", is based upon the text of the original General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade referred to as "<GATT 1947>". The text of "GATT 1947" as subsequently amended by decision of the GATT CONTRACTING PARTIES is included for reference at the end of this volume.

Resumen: Esta ponencia surge como resultado de un trabajo de investigacion sobre Traduccion y Globalizacion que realice hace unos años, y de mi tarea, de indole mas bien practica, a cargo de materias de Traduccion Juridica y Terminologia Juridica, en las Carreras de Traductorado Publico en Ingles de dos universidades. Es por eso, que tiene un componente teorico, a modo de introduccion, y otro ya mas practico que intenta reflejar el trabajo que realizo, mas algunas propuestas de trabajo concretas para el ejercicio de la docencia de la traduccion juridica. Veremos en esta primera diapositiva algunas representaciones graficas que nos ayudan a poner de relieve las relaciones entre dos mundos, dos ambitos que visualmente se presentan como disimiles. hasta antagonicos. Mas aun, como fruto de conversaciones y comentarios con algunos colegas y alumnos, la conclusion a la que podria llegar es que existe una brecha, una inconmensurabilidad entre un mundo y el otro. Tratemos pues de analizar de que modo se puede acortar esa distancia.

Resumen: El objetivo de este trabajo es explorar los factores por los que el idioma inglés se asocia con el concepto de imperialismo lingüístico que explica el posicionamiento cultural y social del inglés en el mundo de hoy. Ofrece un amplio panorama de las diferentes variedades de inglés en términos del status que posee esta lengua en diversas partes del mundo, entre otras, la Argentina, y examina el impacto de dicho fenómeno lingüístico y cultural en los campos de la enseñanza y de la traducción.
