Resumen: German-language approaches to translation have been revolutionized by the theory of action (Handlungstheorie) and the related theory of translation's goal or purpose (Skopostheorie). Both these approaches are functionalist: they seek to liberate translators from servitude to the source text, seeing translation as a new communicative act that must be purposeful with respect to the translator's client and readership. As one of the leading figures in this field, Christiane Nord gives the first full survey of functionalist approaches in English. She explains the complexities of the theories and their terms, using simple language with numerous examples. The book includes an overview of how the theories developed, illustrations of the main ideas, and specific applications to translator training, literary translation, interpreting and ethics. The survey concludes with a concise review of the criticisms that have been made of the theories, together with perspectives for the future development of functionalist approaches.

Resumen: Certaines mesures ont été prises jusqu'à présent dans le domaine de la traduction audiovisuelle et en particulier dans la didactique de la traduction audiovisuelle. Les travaux antérieurs présentent un intérêt considérable et ont servi de bases solides dans l'essentiel de la littérature de formation et la pratique des traducteurs dans le domaine de l'audiovisuel. En gardant ces études antérieures à l'esprit, nous abordons dans cet article la didactique de la traduction audiovisuelle, les publicités télévisées constituant la principale thématique. En partant d'un éventail de différents types de publicités télévisées, nous pouvons soulever des questions de recherche intéressantes: les fondements théoriques de la traduction audiovisuelle ; l'idéologie de la traduction audiovisuelle ; les références culturelles inhérentes aux produits audiovisuels ; les modes de traduction audiovisuelle et leur lien avec les techniques de traduction et les stratégies de résolution des problèmes de traduction ; ou encore la notion d'intraduisibilité. La traduction des publicités audiovisuelles semble être un excellent point de départ pour l'élaboration d'une méthodologie didactique traitant d'importantes questions de recherche en matière de traduction audiovisuelle ; divers problèmes linguistiques et culturels suscitent le débat et tous peuvent être extrapolés à la traduction d'autres types de textes audiovisuels.

Contiene diecisiete unidades didácticas donde se combinan materiales para realizar ejercicios de clase (textos para traducir, cuadros explicativos y fichas ilustrativas) y reflexiones sobre los aspectos principales que se deben tener en cuenta a la hora de traducir de la lengua extranjera a la lengua materna.

Resumen: Este trabajo discute el ajuste en la traducción audiovisual desde el punto de vista de los procedimientos utilizados. Considera la reducción del original, su expansión y la omisión como aspectos diferentes de una misma técnica: la alteración de la longitud/duración de los diálogos originales. Se describen diferentes instrumentos a disposición del traductor audiovisual para la alteración y también procedimientos para paliar sus efectos negativos. También se describen las diferentes velocidades que en cada caso sirven de referencia al traductor para el ajuste: la de lectura mental del espectador y la de interpretación de los actores, velocidades que no se corresponden habitualmente con las propias del traductor. Finalmente, se propone la adquisición de habilidades de ajuste como parte del bagaje del traductor, dada la creciente importancia de esta técnica, su efecto positivo sobre las habilidades generales de expresión y su presencia en otras modalidades de traducción, como son la interpretación consecutiva, la interpretación simultánea, la localización de productos informáticos y la traducción de canciones.

Hoy, esos problemas se han hecho más patentes y ya no son sólo nuestros sino también de otros profesionales que tienen que lidiar a diario con documentos escritos en otras lenguas.

Resumen: Se ofrece en esta obra un análisis detallado de los problemas más frecuentes que suelen presentarse en las traducciones de textos técnicos. Además, se estudian y comparan una serie de traducciones con sus originales, desde un punto de vista pragmático, lo que permite obtener unos resultados más fiables. Resumen: Meta : journal des traducteurs / Meta: Translators’ Journal est une revue savante internationale qui publie des articles de recherche en traduction, en terminologie et en interprétation. La revue publie deux numéros réguliers et un numéro spécial par volume, à raison de dix à douze articles par numéro. Trois langues sont acceptées, soit le français, l’anglais et l’espagnol. Resumen: Through our academic research we developed a control mechanism for translation based on seven variables derived from the studies of the Belgian translatologist Dirk Delabastita. In this paper we implement the control mechanism for translation in the fields of solid waste management and liquid waste mechanics using the academic text-books Handbook of Solid Waste Management and Wastewater Engineering, Treatment and Reuse in order to investigate the quality of translations in Greek. We present an indicative psychometric questionnaire from the initial research conducted with telecommunications scientists, as well as an abstract outlining the processing of the relevant indices, followed by indicative processing in the academic field of environmental engineering. This could be the first step in research for the field of environmental engineering terminology.

Resumen: Professionell Übersetzen heißt, Texte so zu übersetzen, dass sie den Zweck, für den sie der Auftraggeber oder der beabsichtigte Empfänger benötigen, möglichst gut erfüllen. Das vorliegende Buch versteht sich als Einführung in die pragmatischen, kulturellen, sprachlichen und textspezifischen Probleme des professionellen Übersetzens aus dem Spanischen ins Deutsche, in der die Sensibilisierung für diese Übersetzungsprobleme im Vordergrund steht. Der erste Teil des Buches, das in Form eines Kurses aufgebaut ist, enthält 15, in einer sorgfältigen didaktischen Progression angeordnete Lektionen, die jeweils aus einem praxisorientierten spanischen Ausgangstext, einem ausformulierten, realistischen Übersetzungsauftrag, einer ausführlichen Didaktisierung und einer Übersicht über die zu lösenden Übersetzungsschwierigkeiten bestehen. Sofern nötig kommen ein Paralleltext oder Hinweise auf andere Recherchemittel als Übersetzungshilfen hinzu. Im zweiten Teil werden die Übersetzungsprobleme und die Verfahren zu ihrer funktionsgerechten Lösung in systematischer Form dargestellt. Zu jeder Lektion zeigt ein auftragsgerechter Übersetzungsvorschlag im Anhang, wie die theoretischen und methodischen Anleitungen zur Herstellung einer adäquaten Übersetzung in die Praxis umgesetzt werden können. Der Kurs ist für zwei Semester konzipiert. Jedes Semester schließt mit einer Klausur ab; dementsprechend enthält das Lehrwerk zwei Testaufgaben. Das Buch, das im Unterricht ausgiebig erprobt wurde, eignet sich nicht nur für Übersetzungskurse an Schule oder Hochschule, sondern kann auch mit Gewinn zum selbstgesteuerten Lernen eingesetzt werden.

'Interjection' is here intended as an umbrella term extended to a range of emotional utterances along a continuum of primary exclamatory remarks (oh, ah), expletives, greetings, and blessings Interjections, however, may feature either as culture-specific items or be universal and international. The present corpus includes a thematic-based selection including written literature, drama, film adaptation, cartoons and sacred texts. The framework of analysis is thematization within a cross-cultural interface.

Resumen: La traducción de un texto suele entenderse consumada con la presentación de la traducciónproducto al comitente. En este trabajo, específicamente dedicado a la traducción de textos jurídicos, se aborda la conveniencia de incluir la preparación de un informe como parte del encargo de traducción jurídica y como un eslabón esencial en la cadena de relación profesional traductorcomitente. Las decisiones que se adoptan a lo largo de la traducción-proceso no siempre resultan visibles o justificadas para el destinatario; lo mismo puede decirse de las diversas estrategias traductoras que se escogen para resolver problemas de construcción textual, terminológicos o de falta de equivalencia cultural o funcional, entre muchos otros. El informe de traducción jurídica puede servir como vehículo eficaz para la explicitación de esas decisiones y elecciones, con miras al fortalecimiento del vínculo profesional traductor-cliente y a una mayor visibilidad de la trama de procesos cognitivos que subyacen en la dinámica de trasvase.

Resumen: Das vorliegende buch wurde ursprünglich im auftrag des Goethe Instituts verfasst und soolte als fernstudienbrief in einer reihe mit anderen fernstudienbriefen zum thema deutsch als fremdsprache veröffentlicht und zunächst für ein spanisch und italienischsprachiges zielpublikum "regionalisiert", das heisstt: für diese speziell sprachlich und kulturell adaptiert, werden. Eine zu diesem zweck 1999 angefertigte vorläufige deutsche fassung wurde in vielen ländern gelesen und im unterricht sowie im selbststudium erprobt. Positive rückmeldungen kamen vor allem aus Spanien, aus Lateinamerika, aber auch aus Indonesien, Indien und Südafrika. Die allerorten waltenden sparzwänge führten dann dazu, dass das Goethe Institut auf eine veröffentlichung als studienbrief verszichtete, weil, wie man sagte, das übersetzen ja nicht zum "kerngeschäft" dieser institution gehöre. Immerhiin erhielt ich schliesslich meine autorenrechte an dem text zurück, sodass ich mich um eine veröffentlichung in anderem rahmen kümmern konnte.

Resumen: In this paper, an attempt is made to link the deployment of translation strategies in the target text with the act of conceptual mediation at the cognitive level. Data are drawn from how alien sources are translated from and into Chinese. It is argued that conceptual mediation in terms of processing economy is related to how a strategy might be deployed. In this respect, source deletion is the most economical but its outcome the least desirable for translation. On the other hand, substitution is the least economical but could preserve both the imagery and underlying concept of the source. Trans-coding and paraphrasing stand in between, with the former preserving the imagery and the latter the underlying concept. The statistics from four translated texts is in agreement with this processing economy conceivable at the cognitive level.

Resumen: Este libro tiene su origen en actividades docentes y de investigación del autor en la rama especial de "Ciencia Lingüística" y "Traducción e interpretación" en la Universidad de la Provincia de Sarre en Saarbrücken. La finalidad de esta rama de estudios consiste en la preparación de los estudiantes para su futura carrera como traductores e intérpretes diplomados basada en la lingüística y la ciencia de la traducción, y a la vez orientada hacia la práctica profesional.
