Resumen: La falta o carencia de información en lo concerniente al rol del intérprete se debe, en gran medida, a la distorsionada idea que se tiene de la tarea de interpretar y de lo que significa traducir. Resumen: En su discurso inaugural, la profesora Kjaer pasaba revista a los distintos enfoques y puntos de vista que han caracterizado la investigación fraseologica hasta mis idas y señalaba además que hay grandes diferencias entre las opiniones sobre lo que deba entenderse exactamente por él termino "Fraseologia". También parece estar bastante claro que el estudio de la Fraseologia se ha desarrollado generalmente con relación al lenguaje para fines generales (LGP) de la mano de lingüistas y filólogos poco o nada vinculados con el lenguaje para fines específicos.

This volume explores diverse and heterogeneous aspects of the manipulation of gendered and sexual identities. Contributors examine translation as a feminist practice and/or theory; the importance of gender-related context in translation; the creation of a female image of secondariness through dubbing and state censoriship; attempts to suppress the blantantly patriarchal and sexist references in the German dubbed versions of James Bond films; the construction of national heroism and national identity as male preserve; the enactment of Chamberlain's 'gender metaphorics' in Scliar and Calvino; the transformation of Japanese romance fiction through Harlequin translations; the translations of the erotic as site for testing the complex rewriting(s) of identity in sociohistorical term; and the emergence of NRTs (New Reproductive Technologies), which is causing fundamental changes in the perception of 'creativity' or 'procreation' as male domains.

Resumen: Every act of speech that refers to the action of another human being, without stating the proper name or a full reference for the agent, requires pronouns. If the gender of the agent is concealed in any way, the applied pronouns should be generic and all-inclusive including male, female and neutral participants in the action. Pronouns, as words which specify the noun, have to be detailed enough to give a sufficient reference to the agent of the action, but they must also be general enough as to leave room for some interpretation. Ideally, a generic pronoun does not hold a gendered connotation in itself. It should be the unmarked pronoun, equalitarian in its meaning and all-inclusive in its connotation. Gender in most languages is expressed mainy through inflectional affixes on nouns, changes of articles and agreement of other parts of speech. In gendered languages such as German aand French, gender categories for nouns - femenine, masculine and neuter- are only loosely connected to the real world, unless, of course, the reference is in fact human or animal. The arbitratiness may cause some frustration in the language learner, but translating grammatical genderas masculine=male, femenine=female and neuter=sexless should logically be avoided.

Mas aun, como fruto de conversaciones y comentarios con algunos colegas y alumnos, la conclusion a la que podria llegar es que existe una brecha, una inconmensurabilidad entre un mundo y el otro. Tratemos pues de analizar de que modo se puede acortar esa distancia.

Resumen: "The concept of the meme comes from genetics: it is the cultural equivalent of a gene. The term was introduced by Dawkins in his best-seller The selfish gene (1976]). In one of his chapters he discusses how cultural phenomena can be studied in the same way as genetic ones, in that both are subject to the same Darwinian laws of natural selection. He proposes "meme" as a term to describe the evolution of cultural phenomena. A meme is a unit of cultural transmission, a unit of imitation. (...) If a scientist hears, or reads about, a good idea, he passes it on to his colleagues and students. If the idea catches on, it can be said to propagate itself, spreading from brain to brain. (Dawkins 1976)".

Resumen: Born in Buenos Aires, María Teresa lived in the United States, where she obtained her Master of Arts degree in Teaching English as a Second Language at Hawai'i Pacific University (HPU). After obtaining her Master's degree she also taught two courses, Note-taking Skills and Analyzing & Writing Arguments, at the Center for English Language Programs at HPU. María Teresa returned to her native Buenos Aires in 2006, where she taught English in public and private educational institutions at the university, high school and grade school levels. She is the founder and director of her own language center, Lingualandcenter Associated with Linguarama, mainly devoted to individual and group language training programs. She currently works as an English professor at Universidad de la Marina Mercante and conducts various teacher-training courses for translators at the Colegio de Traductores Públicos de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. She is also a free-lance translator and works as an interpreter in the law-court system.
