Resumen: If you are like most people, you visit several websites regularly. You might seek out professional organizations for industry news and events or visit software product sites for reviews and online help or perhaps you simply want to check out the BBC for lastest criket scores. Yet, the Internet is an information jungle, and navigating it on a daily basis (or even several times a day) is time-consuming and tedious. How do you find what you are looking for quickly and easily, and, more important, how do you manage the information you receive? The answer is RSS...RSS feeds are time savers and make it easy to scan a large number of websites quickly for content that is new and potentially interesting.

Resumen: Neural machine translation (NMT) is one of the success stories of deep learning and artificial intelligence. Revolutionary innovations in the computational architectures made in 2015–2017 have led to dramatic improvements in the quality of machine translation (MT) and changed the field forever. Some professional translators welcome these changes with enthusiasm, others less so. But everyone has to deal with them. Historically, the relationship between human translation and MT has been uneasy and complicated, but an increasing number of players in both fields are now coming to view it as synergistic.

Resumen: A few months ago, I was asked to be part of an extensive on-site translation and review project. The catch was that the job was not located in my adopted hometown of Las Vegas, but across the country. I've worked as an in-house translator, but had not done an on-site project as a small business owner. I really enjoy new experiences, so I made a few phone calls, picked a colleague's brain and recruited her to the project, scheduled my husband's visit to come see me, packed, and signed up for up to four weeks. The client, a legal services firm, agreed to my terms, so I was all set. I didn't really know what to expect, but I was up for the challenge.

Resumen: Do we need to start shivering in fear when we hear folks talking about neural machine translation? There has been much in the news lately about the next wave of machine translation (MT) technology driven by something called deep neural nets (DNN). With the help of some folks who understand more about it than I do, I've attempted to provide a brief overview about what this is. First, I need to confess that I will be trying to explain something here that I don't fully understand myself. Still, I hope that my research has helped me comprehend and communicate some basic underlying principles.

Resumen: The National CLAS Standards are intended to advance health equity, improve quality, and eliminate health care disparities by establishing a blueprint for health and health care organizations. In the late 1990s, the U.S. government became seriously concerned with the health conditions of the nation's increasingly diverse communities. Margaret Heckler, former Secretary to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS), headed a task force charged with addressing this challenging issue and finding urgent solutions. After an extensive investigation and study of existing cultural and linguistic competence standards and measures, it became clear that the quality of health care services patients from low-income backgrounds were receiving was very poor, especially among minorities (African Americans and Latinos, in particular).

Moreover, considering that machine translation may pose a risk to the security and confidentiality of the content to be translated, we should also rely on the ISO 27000 series, which offers a framework of international standards for organizations and professional translators to manage their information assets. The application of these standards is a quality seal of a more secure and reliable service.
