Resumen: "Por cuestiones de economía de espacio trataremos aspectos de los tres textos en forma conjunta, diferenciando luego algunas de las soluciones específicas por separado. Aspecto gráfico general: si bien se entiende que se trata de documentos públicos, por tratarse de traducciones precisamente públicas, deberían tener los recaudos de seguridad habitualmente recomendados y hasta indicados legalmente. El sentido global: se entiende que el Texto n° 1 es un Certificado (negativo) de antecedentes judiciales; que el Texto n° 2 es un Certificado general con datos, domicilio y nacionalidad de una persona; y que el Texto n° 3 es un Certificado de Salud. El sentido por unidades de significado. Aquí podemos realizar un análisis detallado de las soluciones a los problemas de traducción, aislando unidades de significado".

Resumen: Las dos palabras que inician el título de esta ponencia, "profesión" y "vocación", son las dos caras de una moneda cuyo valor pretendo sopesar aquí en su conjunto, porque si se elimina una de esas caras la moneda desaparece; para hacerlo, me ocuparé, alternativamente, primero de una de esas caras, y luego, de la otra.

Resumen: Diplomatic translation represents one of the most complicated, advanced, and toughest translation activities in the modern world. It differs from other translations in that it concerns national interests and foreign relations, is politically sensitive and therefore highly demanding, so the general translation criterion is not suitable for diplomatic translation. On the basis of Eugene Nida's Equivalence Theory and from the analytical perspective of the basic principles of International Relations and Diplomacy, this paper proposes the translation concept, "Political Equivalence," taking as a case study the translation of Tao Guang Yang Hui (literally "Maintaining a Low Profile"), one of Deng Xiaoping's famous diplomatic axioms. Thus the paper regards Political Equivalence as the most important criterion for diplomatic translation and also explores the principles and methods therein to achieve political equivalence in the Chinese cultural perspective.

Resumen: Translation can be seen as a process through which the translator begins with the source text, with an attempt at analyzing this particular text into semantic construction. The translator then reconstructs the semantic construction concerned into proper forms of the target language, seeking to produce an equivalent receptor language text (Larson, 1998:?519). In practice, the translator places himself/herself between the source and target texts, moving from the former to the latter and vice versa. The present paper crucially addresses the stages through which the translator is required to pass in order to achieve an acceptable and appropriate translation. It considers each stage in sufficient detail, showing the significance of these stages for the purpose of achieving a successful translation project. Finally, the present paper argues that the translator has to pass specific steps for the sake of accomplishing an acceptable and appropriate translation and that cognizance of translation theories is crucial in carrying out translation procedures, specifically when adopting the translation strategy on which the whole translation project will generally be based.

Resumen: El problema de poder evaluar la calidad de la traducción ocupaba las mentes desde los primeros pasos de la práctica traduccional como forma de comunicación entre las lenguas y culturas. Opiniones tocantes, en particular, a las exigencias en cuanto a la traducción y evaluación de su calidad, se encuentran en los textos de pensadores antiguos, escritores y filósofos famosos que presentaban atención a la problemática de la actividad traduccional. El problema de la evaluación de la calidad de la traducción es, al mismo tiempo, una de las partes del problema de la evaluación y eficiencia de la actividad human como tal.
