Babel continues to be published for FIT and each issue contains a section dedicated to THE LIFE OF FIT.

Resumen: Presentación de la Base de Datos Terminológica "Geología de la Exploración de Hidrocarburos Upstream", elaborada por la Comisión de Terminología del Colegio de Traductores Públicos de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Desde el punto de vista terminológico, hemos confeccionado una base de datos con definiciones y contexto en la lengua de origen, el español, y con los equivalentes de cada término en inglés, orientada no solo a todos los traductores que deban trabajar con textos pertenecientes a este ámbito, sino también a redactores técnicos y científicos, a correctores y editores del ámbito y además profesionales interesados en el campo.

Resumen: En terminología, como en las demás disciplinas lingüísticas, la escritura ha tenido siempre un papel primordial. En consecuencia, la descripción de los términos se ha abordado a partir de textos especializados escritos, y no así de textos especializados orales. En trabajos anteriores hemos mostrado el vacío existente en torno a la oralidad en el ámbito terminológico, y la necesidad de impulsar una nueva línea de investigación en terminología, basada en corpus oral. En este trabajo nos proponemos presentar las bases para el estudio de la terminología oral. Para ello, en primer lugar revisamos algunas nociones esenciales sobre lengua escrita, lengua oral, y oralidad especializada, y ofrecemos una caracterización de los textos especializados orales, inexistente hasta el momento e imprescindible para abordar el estudio de la terminología oral. En segundo lugar abordamos las consecuencias aplicadas y lo ilustramos con ejemplos reales de terminología oral recogidos en una investigación más amplia, basada en el estudio contrastivo de textos especializados escritos y orales del ámbito de la lingüística. Además de promover el estudio de la terminología oral, este trabajo pretende también complementar los contenidos en la formación en terminología.

Resumen: The biblical story of Babel has long reserved as a powerful image for translators in western civilization, stimulating much productive discourse about translation history, mythology, theory and practice. It is therefore interesting to note that the biblical story itself, despite its apparent antoquity and remarkable brevity, has been strongly influenced by even earlier sources stemming from societies antedating its ancient Israelite authors. The article examines some of the most interesting examples of cross-cultural and intertextual references from ancient proverbs and writings including well-know works such as the Gilgamesh epic and the Babylonian creation epic, Enuma Elis.The delightfully subtle translingual wordplay in the name "Babel" is also clarified. The biblical tower of babel reveals a starling complexity resulting from the wealth of intercultural and multilingual contacts that constitute the distant foundation of western tradition.

Resumen: "Desde mediados de los 80 muchas cosas han cambiado en España en el ámbito de los Estudios de Traducción: hay nueva licenciatura, nuevos planes de estudio y nueva área de conocimiento. Las tres escuelas universitarias de entonces son hoy más de diez facultades, se han multiplicado los masters, desde 1993 se viene impartiendo en León el doctorado en traducción, se ha abierto la Casa del Traductor en Tarazona y la Escuela de Traductores de Toledo parece haber renacido de las cenizas del tiempo. Hay ya en el mercado un buen plantel de revistas monográficas, además de varios boletines niformativos. Ha salido también de imprenta un amplísimo número de libros que comienzan a cubrir parcelas muy distintas de los estudios translémicos. Tan sólo en 1994, por ejemplo, se publicarion en España no menos de doce títulos, sin contar actas de congresos, encuentros y coloquios. Es evidente, pues, que tanto en España como en Hispanoamérica algo está cambiando en este mundo bullente de la traducción. Y la mejor pureba de ello son los varios miles de títulos que esta bibliografía puede presentar hoy."
