Resumen: This study aims at investigating the nature and scope of the problems that Arab learners encounter in translating English metaphorical expressions into Arabic using English-Arabic dictionaries. The strategies involved in translating English metaphors into Arabic have been identified and described. The study also aims at determining the extent to which English-Arabic dictionaries are helpful to.learners in translating English metaphors. The findings of the study reveal that learners resort to a number of strategies induding finding the idiomatic translation equivalents, literal translation, interpretation and guessing. Bilingual dictionaries have been found to be a potential source of error for learners. These dictionaries offer inadequate help to translators in terms of providing equivalents to metaphorical expressions.

Y lo fundamenta con dos ejemplos bellos y elocuentes presentados en los últimos capítulos: su propia experiencia como traductora del Quijote (que llevó a Harold Bloom a llamarla la "Glenn Gould" de la traducción) y de la poesía del Siglo de Oro español.

Resumen: L'emprunt est un phenomene social qui reflete l'influence culturelle exercee par une societe sur une autre. Les relations d'ordre economique, politique et culturelle qui se tissent entre les communautes contribuent aux echanges linguistiques entre les Etats, notamment au travers d'echanges culturels de tout type lesquels, a leur tour, entrainent l'incorporation d'elements d'une langue dans une autre. L'espagnol emprunte de plus en plus de mots et de tournures a la langue anglaise ; ceci est vrai dans bon nombre de domaines, dont le domaine de l'economie. Depuis une perspective terminologique, cet article traite des emprunts de la langue anglaise dans le langage economique en espagnol. Nous realisons un travail d'observation, d'analyse et de description des emprunts lexicaux presents dans un corpus d'articles publies dans la section economique du quotidien El Pais sur la periode entre janvier 2007 et decembre 2010. Le cadre theorique de notre etude traite, d'une part, la categorie des emprunts qui, au sens large, conforment aux unites provenant d'autres codes linguistiques et, d'autre part, nous abordons ce phenomene linguistique par la perspective sociolinguistique qui s'interesse aux rapports entre le langage et la societe. Nous presentons ensuite nos objectifs (principaux et specifiques), puis la methodologie que nous avons suivie tout au long de notre investigation. Enfin, nous discutons des resultats obtenus.

Resumen: "The Benny Hill Show and Sex and the City are two famous programs from different countries: one from Great Britain, the other from the United States. They do not share the same kind of humor, although their humor was considered "vulgar" when they were first shown on TV. This paper will try to answer questions such as how those differences and similarities affect the subtitling, how we should analyze this type of discourse, what kind of references translators face when subtitling humor, and so on. Examples taken from both shows will be included to illustrate the theoretical concepts".

Resumen: "(...) la calidad de textos traducidos se basa tanto en criterios objetivos como subjetivos. Desde el punto de vista objetivo se puede medir, por ejemplo, si la sintaxis, la gramática, los signos de puntuación y la ortografía son correctas. También la exactitud técnica, adecuada a una rama o a una firma específica, y la elección de la terminología se encuentran en este apartado. Estos criterios objetivos deben estar garantizados por un profesional de la traducción y se pueden demostrar científicamente. Hoy aquí, nos concierne hablar de las normas para los prestatarios de los servicios de traducción y, para poder ofrecer un servicio de traducción de alta calidad, existen otros criterios objetivos, además de los nombrados anteriormente. Aquí, como en el caso de nuestra norma más reciente, se trata también y, sobre todo, de la calidad del servicio, de la calidad mensurable del servicio. Se puede determinar sin duda alguna, si un trabajo fue entregado en tiempo o no; de la misma manera se puede determinar si los datos llegan al cliente de la manera que fue acordada. Si se ofrece la utilización de alguna herramienta tecnológica (por ejemplo, Translation Memory System), este será entonces un factor de calidad, así como el desarrollo fácil, bien estructurado y comprensible de todo el proceso, la gerencia eficiente del proyecto, el feedback y la satisfacción (mensurable) del cliente".

Resumen: By examining the types and frequencies of non-renditions in a 100-hour corpus of court interpreting records from Hong Kong, this study demonstrated that court interpreters actively coordinate communication when carrying out their interpreting duties. Non-renditions are interpreters' utterances that do not have a corresponding counterpart in the source language, and such renditions are ordinarily used to coordinate interpreter-mediated exchanges. This analysis revealed that in the Hong Kong court setting, non-renditions were less common in English (the court language) than in Cantonese (the main language of the witnesses and defendants). In the Cantonese subsample, interactional non-renditions were more common than textual non-renditions, and most of these utterances were self-initiated rather than prompted by others. In the English subsample, textual non-renditions were more common than interactional non-renditions, and most of them were other-prompted. The skewed distribution of non-renditions, and particularly the tendency to address non-renditions to the lay participants, suggests that court interpreters may not be absolutely impartial.
